I don’t think I will ever fully find the words for this moment, only the gratitude behind it. FBLA, you have entrusted me with the honor of a lifetime in choosing me to serve as your National Treasurer. This journey is the culmination of years of dedication, built upon the generosity of countless people who helped me tremendously. I am profoundly humbled to serve on the national stage.

It would be impossible to name everyone who has walked beside me on this path, but I want to honor a few who shaped who I have become. To those whom I do not name, know that your support is equally as appreciated.

To my two Texas State Officer teams: you are the foundation of the leader I am today. Your support has stayed with me long after each term ended, and you pushed me toward a version of myself I could not have reached alone. The memories we built together, and the ones still ahead of us as a state, will remain with me always.

To NPEC: Claire, Sebas, Elizabeth, Tori, and Yasha: you became my second family and my closest friends. What began as a simple weekly Google Meet grew into one of the truest highlights of my year. We grew close in ways I did not expect, and each of you carries a kind of brilliance entirely your own. I will miss our meetings, but I know the bond we built will outlast the title that brought us together.

To my parents: you have given me everything. Your support has never wavered, and it has been the ground I stand on every time I try to reach higher. You have shown up at every conference, every setback, and every success, and none of this would exist without the love you have given so freely. I am endlessly grateful to be your son.

To Team 75: Joe, Charis, Ishika, Rylan, Gaby, Avi, and Tori: I could not be more honored to serve alongside each of you this year. I already know we will become a family. The work ahead of us is significant, but there is no team I would rather carry it with. I am eager for everything this year will bring.

FBLA, thank you from the depths of my heart for choosing to Go with Gus for National Treasurer. Here’s to a year of growing and building something we’ll be proud of.

With gratitude,
Gustavo Rivas

I got a text from Pari that said, “There is a discrepancy in your resume. Please call me.” That scared the crap out of me. But that was what started everything. Now, I say goodbye as everything comes to a close.

To Ashwin: No other media director could top your energy, enthusiasm, and confidence in every single post you completed. As I look back on Day 1 when we started making the introduction post to now saying farewell, we did good. I am happy I got to work with you, and I hope this isn’t a goodbye, but a see you later.

To Jivi: The only council member I never got to see in person. Nonetheless, you brought the laughs and interesting gossip to our meetings. From day 1 to now, your media folder is looking a little bit bigger than when we started. I wish you the best of luck in college and moving forward. (Take a LOT of photos!)

To Max: You and I had a coincidentally full circle moment. From the National Stage in 2025 to now being on a council with you, I am entirely grateful. You have the best advice and are always at peace. Meeting you at SLC was a blast, and your future journey is bright. UChicago is very lucky to have you.

To Siri: I knew we would instantly click from the moment I met you in person at NFLC. You bring so much to the table and more. I hope that NFLC 2025 isn’t the last time I’ll meet you, but a start to more hangouts and two-hour FaceTime calls about random stuff. I don’t know if we will ever work with each other again, but I am always here to talk and rant about anything. See you and talk soon.

To Pari: So much appreciation and gratitude come from my heart when I was chosen to work with you. I never would have thought there would be a time when I actually got to work with a national officer. Freshman year me always wondered how FBLA members got to such a high level in this organization, and now, as I step out of junior year, I am here. You were amazing as an officer, and I am proud to be one of your media directors. You will do incredible things in college and beyond.

To Claire: I am really happy we both are in it together! I can talk to you about anything FBLA-related. Our journey isn’t over yet. 😉

One year ago today, I had the opportunity to reflect on my “why” within FBLA. I had the privilege of being able to appreciate all of the individuals who not only left a positive mark on my FBLA journey but my personal development, and the privilege of losing national office to be able to reflect on all the surrounding love and support everyone had so graciously given me to run for national office, even when I didn’t believe in myself. Throughout the entire campaigning process and within the 3 years I’ve had the honor of being within FBLA, what’s always kept me centered is my “why”.

The truth is my “why” is the members of FBLA. ‘24-’25 NPEC, Team 73 and 74, my previous and current state officer teams, all 309 members of Urbana FBLA, the 3,900+ members within Maryland FBLA, Dr. Zimmerman, Mrs. Connor, the Maryland FBLA BOD, and all the amazing members I’ve had the privilege of growing with in between.

To Mrs. Connor and Dr. Zimmerman, thank you for always being there for me from the day I joined FBLA as a timid freshman. Your guidance over the past 3 years has not only allowed me to become an effective servant leader but also taught me to grow with grace and come out of my shell to become a better person.

To my campaign team: Laya, Hannah, Arianie, Medha, Paige, Saanvi, Siri, Veena, and Zoya, thank you for all the long hours and dedication you poured into my campaign. You all have worked just as tirelessly on this campaign and poured so much love into the process (including making sacrifices like putting on an itchy Gordon Ramsay wig alongside LOTS of sore throats), for which I am endlessly grateful. So many amazing influential individuals have shaped my FBLA journey dramatically (Siri, Zoya, Olivia, Andrew, Yuxi, etc.), and I want to thank them all as well; however, unfortunately, that is not possible since Instagram is evil and has a word limit.

To Team 75: I cannot wait to work together and grow throughout this membership year! You all are extremely talented, and I cannot wait for the journey ahead of us.

Finally, FBLA, thank you so much for choosing to COOK with Charis.

This is Charis Roussel, your FBLA National Secretary, ready to cook.

my first ever national leadership conference with fbla did not disappoint. between spending time as a lead intern in the competitive events center, making plenty of memories with @fblafl and @creeksidefbla, and having the opportunity to meet so many old friends while making just as many more, this was a conference that i could never forget.
i truly made the best memories this past week, whether it was shenanigans with the best state officer team ever or simply meeting all of the many many friends fbla has given me these past 3 years. special shoutout to everyone who made it to the southern region workshop!! the experience wouldn’t have been half as amazing without all the people along the way.
this post wouldn’t be mine if i didn’t take a moment for @srfbla. joe, thank you for taking a chance on me. my gratitude knows no bounds, and spending this year learning so much from this team has changed my life. taylor, i promise the random calls will never stop. katie, you were the best partner in crime a girl could ever ask for. and gaby, there is no one more deserving of being our next srvp. i am so so so proud of and happy for you!
it was such a privilege being able to represent creekside fbla, district 27 fbla, and florida fbla on the southern region council this year. serving everyone, whether it was through our media series or the soon-to-be-released national yearbook has been the best experience. thank you southern region for the memories and all of the friends. this is your media director officially signing off 🫶

NLC 2026: where do I even begin? If this experience was a fever dream, it was the people who made it worth staying asleep for. I’m endlessly grateful to everyone I met—you all made this conference even more magical.

A massive, standing-ovation-level CONGRATULATIONS to the new national officer team! I have no idea how you’ve managed to balance this much hard work with being such incredible humans, but I am already so excited for everything you’re going to achieve this next year.

@yasha.fbla Thank you for taking a leap of faith and putting me in NPEC, and for introducing me to the five people that I am proud to call lifelong friends. I don’t know how you’ve done this much for FBLA while remaining this determined, kind, and funny. President of my heart!

I spent 5 hours of an 11 hour flight writing several drafts of my FBLA Farewell. With every new line I wrote, I couldn’t help but get emotional. You would think there would be enough ways to encapsulate the passion I feel towards this organization, but it’s incredibly hard to put it into words. In the end I came up with this. It’s not perfect, but it felt right to me. Feel free to read it in its entirety and scroll through the post to see more of it underneath new pictures.

Future Business Leaders of America. FBLA. 4 years of work. 4 years of competition. 4 years of blood, sweat, and tears. It was an adventure, a journey, but it ultimately helped me find purpose. FBLA has given me many opportunities, knowledge, memories, laughters, cries, fears, and dreams, but the biggest thing FBLA gave me were people. I found kindred spirits from all parts of California and the United States. I have lived, loved, and learned from countless individuals, all shaping my life in unimaginable and unforgettable ways. No words can thank FBLA enough for becoming my 2nd home.

My gratitude ultimately extends to the hundreds of friends and family I’ve made but I am obliged to highlight a few.

Yasha Nagathan, the president of FBLA: You were the best leader I could ever ask for. Your wisdom knows no bounds. You gave me a 2nd chance in this organization, a lucky break if you will, and for that I’ll always owe you. You always kept me in check, you always cared for the team, and you always came to our meetings with a smile. I can’t imagine where I would be if you and I hadn’t met at the airport on the way back from NFLC in Columbus. Thank you for creating the core of my senior year.

Gustavo Rivas, my brother: Right now, I’m missing you most. Although you are the 2nd person on this list, I’m currently writing your message as my last. Thank you for keeping me sane senior year. Although I am older and taller in this relationship, I look up to you. You are the smartest person I have ever met, the best athlete, and the most diligent friend in high school. Your genius and work ethic know no bounds. Even with all that, you stayed humble, grounded, and firm on ethics, morals, and integrity. You

NLC 2026! 🤍

San Antonio was an amazing experience, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to attend as your Maryland State Executive Vice President.

I met so many incredible people, made memories I’ll never forget, and had countless adventures along the way. From late night Taco Bell DoorDashes to balcony conversations that lasted for hours, this conference brought so many new friendships. And of course… so many pin trades (still never got the Crumbl pin or ducks ❤️‍🩹).

Laya and I also had the honor of being invited back to present another workshop after Survivor Island was so well received last year in Anaheim. Our workshop, From Hi to Hired, had a full room, and it was amazing getting to share our ideas with so many members.

A huge congratulations to Charis, our Maryland State Executive President, on being elected National Secretary! You truly deserve this after all your hard work and dedication. I had so much fun designing the Cook with Charis campaign and loved getting to be part of your campaign team.

Thank you, San Antonio, for an incredible week. Until next time, FBLA! 💙
