🎨 Etched in my heart - and in our community Captured my girl Lai Lani perfectly. Ophelia, a gifted young artist from Sitar Arts Center, caught that look … the “I’m on a mission” face Lai gives me daily. Now her sketch hangs in my kitchen, right where I grab Lai’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks… and yes, where I’m usually standing with a wine glass in hand, doing my dog‑mom multitasking like it’s a sport. Four and a half years later, this four‑legged girl is permanently etched in my heart … and now on my wall. And grateful to my lovely friend @thebudalu for taking the OG photo! So grateful to Sitar Arts Center @sitarartscenter for nurturing young talent and giving kids a real chance to be immersed in the arts. This is what community looks like: creativity, care, connection, and moments that become part of our everyday lives. 💛🐾🍷. @dcrealestatebyhi Support this incredible organization - they make magic possible. @sitarartscenter and https://www.sitarartscenter.org/ #tanninsandtruth #arts #dogsofinstagram #sitarartscenter #artsandyouth

Calling all high school jazz students in the DC greater metropolitan area! 🎶 Auditions are coming up for the @dcyop JazzDC Youth Ensemble and we can’t wait to get the ball rolling for the 2026/2027 season, and what will be our 3rd year! We are also very excited to be in a beautiful, *brand new* facility at @sitarartscenter - with our own dedicated practice room!!! If there are any students out there 12-18 years of age who are serious about learning the music and looking for opportunities to play outside of school, we’d love to see you! Auditions are Wednesday September 16th and 30th 7-9pm at @sitarartscenter , which is also when and where the ensemble rehearses. Intermediate level suggested but if you’re a beginning improviser and eager to learn, come by and we’ll see if it’s a good fit. We focus on strengthening improv skills and building language, learning repertoire from American Songbook to Modern Jazz, sight reading/reading skills, and even more contemporary artists like Roy Hargrove and Stevie Wonder! The students have also gotten to do masterclasses with folks like @joseandre.bo @allynjohnson88 @michaelbowiemusic #HermanBurney & @anthony.hervey . Sign up to audition at dcyop.org/jazzdc-ensemble and don’t hesitate to reach out if any questions or concerns! Thanks to @dcjazzfest for their support in making this possible! 🙏🏽 Cover photo of @ejbjazz & @anthony.hervey courtesy of @vz_visuals 📸 #jazzdcyouthensemble
