From the Community: Today marks one month without Corey. Please join us for a vigil and tacos with his family to honor his life. 5:30- 8:30pm today 8/22/26 at James Madison Park. Please bring lawn chairs and drinks if you are able. Please be respectful of the family if you visit. This event is not organized by DeFlock Dane, but we are sharing it by request from organizers in touch with the family.

Madison Worker Cooperatives (MadWorC) wants to support our community in a way that aligns with our values - specifically Cooperation & Integrity, Democracy & Transparency, and Justice. Our community has been directly impacted by the shooting of Corey Ruiz on Williamson Street on July 22nd. In solidarity with all affected by the shooting and in an effort to mitigate the financial impact on workers in the neighborhood, we have started the Willy Street Impacted Workers Fund. Funds raised will go directly to employees impacted by lost wages in the immediate area of the shooting. Visit @madworc_’s stories for more info or reach out to them directly. Guidelines •Funds are for employees only - not available to owners. •Fund is for employees in the immediately impacted area within a roughly one block radius of the shooting. •There is a maximum of $500 per person per round of funding. •Lost wages must be verified. •Funds will be dispersed via check and must be mailed within the immediate Madison area or can be picked up at the Social Justice Center at 1202 Williamson Street. •Funds will be dispersed on a first come first serve basis. Depending on funds available, we may do multiple rounds of funding for workers impacted by loss of wages. Funds will be available no sooner than August 15th. If you have any questions or fall outside these guidelines but would like to request to apply, please contact PJ at coordinator@madworc.coop. In partnership with @workerjusticewi, on Monday, March 9th we will be hosting a Protecting Immigrants at Work training at the @goodmancenterwi from 6-8pm! This workshop will have live simultaneous Spanish interpretation provided by Interpreters’ Cooperative of Madison. This workshop will cover 4th and 5th amendment rights, how to navigate interacting with law enforcement, and developing a worksite-wide plan. We will have tabling from local worker justice orgs and unions, and informational resources. We will also be raising funds with screen printing, buttons, mini-prints, and more from @acabundergroundschool! Contact us for more information, or to support this workshop with monetary or snack/refreshment donations.

This week - February 11 thru 17 - on Tone Madison! ✨ Arts Editor Grant Phipps chatted with Josiah Wampfler at OCA Media to highlight some notable screening events in Madison throughout 2025 and our shared / individual picks for favorite 2025 movie performances. Managing Editor Christina Lieffring insisted that Madison needs a wake-up call after she unpacked some recent news stories. The longer we pretend this City is a progressive haven, the more people will be harmed. Phipps also explored new experimental video art by Chele Isaac, Toby Kaufmann-Buhler, and Aaron Granat at Central Library as part of The Bubbler's 150 Artists x 150 Years exhibition. He revealed the creative depths of their works—PHOTO><SYNTHESIS, EYE SEES TIME, and APHANTASIA—on display through February 28. Read these stories and more at the link in bio.

Rates of homelessness and housing instability are quickly rising in Madison and Dane County, due to a robber baron housing market and lack of local government action. The Dane County Homeless Justice Initiative is an effort to cultivate a system that ensures all our neighbors’ basic needs are met, from food to healthcare to housing. If you’re feeling the financial squeeze this holiday season, we’ve got two ways to help. The first is our pay-it-forward fund that can help with small copays for your prescriptions. This fund is made possible by small private donations from our wonderful patients. The other way we may be able to help is through our low-income support fund setup in partnership with @madworc_ and made possible by a generous private donation from a long time patron. With proof of low income status, such as SNAP or Badgercare eligibility, you can have access to up to $100 in funds to pay for your medications or a limited selection of over the counter items. This fund is capped annually, so you may reapply one year after your first application for more funds, if needed. Reach out to our pharmacy for the full details! We’re also a part of the Drug Repository Program. If you have any unused medication in its original and sealed container, that does not expire within 3 months, you can donate it to our pharmacy! We try to match these donated medications up with patients who are struggling to afford these items.

Well here’s something you might’ve thought you’d never read - Community Pharmacy Cooperative has adopted an Artificial Intelligence policy! As the omnipresence of AI labeled technology such as Language Learning Models and generative text, image, and video applications has grown, so has the need for Community Pharmacy Cooperative to adopt an AI policy. Worker Cooperatives are an ongoing experiment. We have a unique ability to self govern ourselves and make decisions based on both the core tenets of our values and the modern needs of today’s world. Therefore, we have adopted the following policy: Community Pharmacy Cooperative is dedicated to avoiding the utilization of harmful Artificial Intelligence technology at our businesses. We understand that there are times when it may be unavoidable, as it becomes increasingly woven into our everyday life. Community Pharmacy Cooperative will avoid purchasing products that utilize AI to generate their labels or advertising, to the best of our ability. We will NOT purchase any knowingly AI generated artwork for our greeting cards, stickers, bookmarks, books, buttons, and other gift items. We will NOT use any knowingly AI generated artwork or text for our social media, website, newsletter, store branded products, and other advertising or signage. We understand that there are times when AI generated imagery is indistinguishable from a genuine artist’s original creation, and will not fault our workers for using it without knowing. We will not use AI assisted text generation to create store policies, curriculum for classes or events, herbal recipes, or other written materials.
