LGL Thursdays, Episode 21: Tommys Chop Shop

This week, we brought Sky and Jodi along to Tommy’s Chop Shop for the Hunter Kennedy Apparel Launch.

The clothes were fresh, Mafiana was killing it on the decks, and at some point the evening became weirdly competitive thanks to the foosball table.

There were winners. There were losers. Sky chipped a nail. Things got serious.

Thankfully, Tommy’s Tuck Shop was there for recovery. The food was fantastic. We spent an unreasonable amount of time staring at Jodi’s boerie. That thing looked BANGING.

Good clothes, good tunes and minor sporting injuries. A successful launch by our standards.

Now... where are we pulling up for Episode 22? 👀

LGL Thursdays, Episode 20: Opium CPT at Just Shift Cafe

There’s something very fun about watching someone you’ve never heard of grab a mic and immediately have you paying attention.

That was a lot of Opium CPT.

A room full of emerging rappers, friends screaming lyrics back at them, DJs, people meeting each other, and artists getting a chance to test themselves in front of an actual crowd. Some were clearly more experienced than others, but that’s half the point.

These are the nights where you find people early.

We also somehow left Just Shift Cafe with two new tattoos, courtesy of Stuss, and bumped into our boy @kiloooo808 again. Standard Thursday behaviour at this point.

Shoutout to Opium CPT for giving underground hip hop another room to play in.

And shoutout to the dog. No particular reason. We just liked him.

Tell us where we should pull up next Thursday 👀

Before the sets, we got the conversations.

At Long Live: Hip Hop by Curated by KAYA, our own Sky and Pilo sat down with LUUKHANYO, Maylee Malindi and Master Kiii for a chat that went well beyond the usual interview questions.

We put them on the spot. We made them explain random 30 Seconds cards. We asked some serious questions. We asked some very unserious questions.

The result? Probably our most chaotic podcast setup yet.

This is a teaser of what went down on the night. Full interviews with all three artists are still on the way, but trust us, you're going to want to stick around for those.

Big love to Nic and the Curated by KAYA team for giving us the space to make this happen.

And shoutout to LUUKHANYO, Maylee and Master Kiii for being good sports!

LGL Thursdays, Episode 6.

This week, we went to Obs.

Ra Mava pulled up to Ganesh for a vinyl-only DJ set, and the whole night felt warm from the second we walked in. Our founders, Zander and Sky, came along this time too, probably because they heard there were good cocktails and chow involved.

Huge shoutout to Jade, the owner of Ganesh, who has built one of the most welcoming spaces we’ve stepped into in a while. You can feel it immediately: the regulars, the staff, the performers, everyone moving around like family.

Also… the food and cocktails were ridiculous! Proper standout of the night.

We even ran into the local legend, Morena Leraba.

And shoutout to Ganesh for consistently putting on multiple music events every week. Spaces like this matter.

Safe to say: we’ll be back soon.

Tell us where we should pull up next Thursday 👀
