My beloved family,

I’ve finally come up for air.

After being in court two days this week, I’ve been able to rest a little, breathe, and really take in what happened on September 19.

And I wanted to send y’all a love note.

First, thank you to Mariela Regalado, founder of El Retorno, and Roberto Carlos Garcia, who for the past nine months have consistently checked in, called, prayed, showed up, and reminded me that I was not walking through this alone.

Thank you to my chosen family — Natasha Gordon-Chipembere, Yndia, and my Tengo Sed sisters — for your prayers and your love.

Thank you to Veronica, the founder of WordUp, and the entire WordUp / Recirculation team for opening your doors and making room for us.

There are not a lot of spaces that would be brave enough to support writers like me, and I am deeply grateful for this one. And a special thank you to Kari and Maria, who were holding it down as staff that night.

Lizbel — mujer. 😂 Thank you for graciously jumping in, hosting, MC’ing, helping with the gift bags, and somehow being the woman who can do ALL THE THINGS. To the family who prayed rosary for me— thank you. I love you.

My James Monroe family… there isn’t enough space in this caption to express my gratitude for you all. Thank you for the DAILY PRAYERS and words of encouragement throughout—I love you.

Thank you to our panelists Anastacia, Luis, and Rafael for giving your time, your energy, and your voices to our conversation about writers, censorship, power, and the freedom to tell our stories.

Thank you to every person who donated — those who gave between January and June, those who gave during the campaign, those who gave on the night of the event, those who bought something, bid, those who traveled near and far, and those who simply showed up.

Thank you to every person who lit a candle for me.

Every person who prayed for me.
Every person who checked in.
Every person who sent love.

You did not have to give money to help me.

Prayer is powerful.
Love is powerful.
Presence is powerful.

And I have felt ALL of it.

And I have to thank my beautiful daughters: Court. Baby E.

“Bodies collide and sway. Sweat gleams off the brows of beautiful brown bodies. An array of colors and faces smile back at you inviting you to el Perreo. Here, our accents are a luxury. We never code switch.” - @skye.cabrera

@tribesundays rehearsals are as magical as the events leading up to it. We gather in love, to collectively extend that love out into the world. To heal, unify and awaken. It’s an experience, a journey,a lesson in unity & co-creation. A heartfelt collaboration from people of all walks of life, walking together for a moment in time. It’s for everyone.
For the black sheep, dreamers, catalysts & truth seekers or those needing a seeking of commonality.
In a world of hierarchies, Tribe reminds me that we are a microcosm and we could never do this alone.

Welcome to the familia. #tribe #cityofangels #fam

See you at the next one,LA.

Putting the ACT in Activism this morning with this dedicated crew. 🌍
Less talk,
More action.
The sad truth is that we need more hands to get together and do the dirty physical labor of depolluting the shores that stream into our oceans. •
•

We come to enjoy these rivers and share space with the wildlife that’s already living here and so we have to respect these scared lands, their homes and these waters. The incredible amount of waste and overall disregard was appalling to see. •
•
Legit: come on B,Just pick up after your shit. •
•

If every one of us that attended Climate Change marches and shared Memes did this even once a year,in our waters,in our hoods...imagine. •
•
Organize with people in your community. Do it loud. Do it quietly. But Make it happen.
Shout out to this amazing community for coming together on a Saturday morning to make magic happen.
Close to 20+ garbage bags in just 2 hours.

Throwback to this last weekend when we SURPRISE visited my beautifully talented bestie @ramoncita_cabroncita at one of her workshops in Sacramento🤗😘! We were at the amazing Latino Center for Art and Cultura❤️. We made our own paper mache dolls and unpacked body image issues. Check out her page to learn more about her workshops. We might be collaborating soon🙌🏾🔥

Repost from our #WriteThePower creative writing facilitator and poet @skye.cabrera because #blackhistorymonth #roots #raizes #migrationisbeautiful #livingancestors #goldmelanin #resilience 🙏🏾•••My grandparents are Dominican immigrants and moved to NYC in the 70s. Hipolito Corporan and Yndiana Cabrera. The only thing distinguishing my grandfather from being confused for Nigerian is his Spanish accent and language. These are my living ancestors and when they die, their ghosts will keep urging me to propel forward. We recognize our roots in our family and wear our melanin like gold. They were my second parents growing up in Washington Heights. My grandfather was a New York City cab driver and my grandmother worked in factories, but most importantly, helped raise me,all 6 of her sons, and everyone else's kids. They've been together 60 years, both in their 80s and stronger than most young people I know and no one cooks habichuelas con dulce like my abuela. I hope we can live in a world where we all realize our roots aren't so distinct from another's,especially within the Latino community. 🇩🇴#blackhistorymonth ⚡️
