🏀 @slade_all_day training his jump shot with the KAT on his shooting arm. The app tracks his arm angles against target positions, and the KAT vibrates in real time so he can feel when he hits his set point and follow-through.

Some kids light up in arcades…Cam lights up at the ocean. 🌊 It’s his reset button, the one thing that puts him in perfect rhythm—just like a clean jumper. I get it. At 25, I packed up and moved to St. Thomas for the same reason. The ocean doesn’t just surround you, it changes you. Watching him love it the way I do feels like passing down something bigger than basketball. One day he’ll decide what it means for him, but for now, I just hope we’re the kind of parents that help him protect it. Because every kid deserves a happy place…and he’s already found his.

Every parent thinks their kid is gonna be 6’8” with LeBron genetics. Reality check: there’s no magic growth spurt cheat code.

Cam’s on pace for about 6’3”… maybe he hits it, maybe he doesn’t. That’s why we look at Eli Ellis as the model.

Eli isn’t a freak athlete. He didn’t roll into OTE looking like Zion. What he did do was light up the league with skill, IQ, and a chip on his shoulder big enough to need its own locker. Back-to-back MVPs. Under Armour deal. Proof you don’t need superpowers if you’ve got the work.

If Cam wakes up one day and suddenly looks like LeBron? Awesome. But we’re not betting on inches. We’re building the toolbox—shooting, decision-making, relentless work ethic.

Eli Ellis is the blueprint. Everything else is just bonus features.

Cam’s starting Elevate Basketball League (EBL)through Texas Pro Academy. Most youth leagues are pure Chaos…Half the kids run around like it’s recess, the other half just stand there pretending they’re open. Coaches? Basically cardio with clipboards.

EBL’s different. Stations, concepts of the week, then 3v3, 2v2, 1v1. Nobody hides, everybody gets touches. It’s basically Stranger Things if the scientists actually ran the lab.

Sundays? Quick team practice. Communication, spacing, moving without the ball. Basically the fundamentals of basketball… the stuff you actually needed in “Double Dribble” before the dunk cutscene.

Most leagues are like “Duck Hunt”. One kid shoots, everyone else watches. EBL’s like “Mario Kart” though — everybody’s in the race.

Bottom line: Cam’s getting real reps. And yes… I’m more excited than he is.

On a weekend that could’ve been all tears and awkward potato salad, my heart got blindsided in the best way—watching Camden with his first cousin once removed (yes, I had to Google that… felt like I was prepping for a law exam just to figure out family tree math).

Cam drops down to her level and just plays. Patient. Present. Doesn’t rush her. Like, what nine-year-old does that?

And the wild part—people kept telling me, “he’s so good with littles, he reminds me of you.” Then my nephews and nieces piled on with stories of me being the “cool uncle” growing up—the one who always got in the dirt, built the fort, or started the game.

As a parent, there’s no better flex. Forget wins, forget trophies—seeing your kid carry the same spark you once did? That’s legacy.

Cam’s back at parkour after taking the summer off. I didn’t realize how much I missed watching him vault over random objects, dive roll across the floor like Jason Bourne in training, or backflip off things that—let’s be real—are probably not designed for backflips.

The best part? He falls off big stuff with zero hesitation… which is either a sign of fearlessness or early-onset insanity. Either way, it’s fun to watch.

Basketball may be his first love, but there’s something about seeing him run straight at a wall and think, “Yeah, I got this” that makes me wonder if I should be investing in bubble wrap futures.
