Shout Out to my undergrad teacher and forever mentor Galen Lemmon on a fantastic performance of “Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints” for Xylophone by Alan Hovhaness! I think everyone involved here has been a student of Galen’s over the years, just a few of his thousands of students over his career. @therealcarsonruffing @slangsampercussion @mr.percussion @goodrepercussions

It was a special moment to back up Galen on this piece, and extra special to have my young son in the audience, who loved it!

Quick trip up to Sacramento last weekend for @casmecmusic, and it was the first time I’ve been able to unlock the overlapping work/family trip (huge thanks to wife 🙏❤️) Caught up with friends, kids saw the state capital for the first time, and had their first look behind the scenes of rehearsals and evening concerts.

When my students prepare for these type of All-State auditions, we spend all our attention and energy on the learning, practicing, and recording process – the things that we can control. How we approach that process is our marker of success, (did we make consistent progress, were we learning and refining over time versus cramming, was the final recording process smooth because of our level of preparation, etc.) as opposed to the sometimes difficult final selection outcome.

However, when the stars do align, we celebrate! It’s an amazing opportunity for students to participate in such an amazing event. I couldn’t have been more proud of how my students prepped and conducted themselves in rehearsals all week to perform, and most importantly, have fun on stage at such a major event. Thank you so much to all the tireless work and effort from all the parents, educators, staff and organizations who make this event possible.

2025 monthly moments

With the idea from @its_actually_stefon, I decided to post a moment (or multiple) from each month of 2025. Last year was one of the most transformative of my life so far. Hard truths were learned, big decisions were made, lots of lows were had, but in the fog there were great memories made and plenty of love to go around. I’m grateful to all of my friends, family, animals, and my awesome girlfriend for supporting me through quitting my bullshit job this year, and for believing in me. I am still figuring shit out, and am nowhere near where I want to be, but everyone in these posts and in my life help me realize how much more there is to life. For anyone who’s read this far, thank you, I probably care about you a whole ton and I’m glad you cared enough to read this 🤍

1. January - Lingus recovering after we took him in from the streets

2. February - Family visiting from Canada 🇨🇦

3. March - Camping with the buddies, celebrating tater and Clark’s bdays

4. March - Sedona with family (favorite city in America so far)

6. May - Seeing Hippo Campus in Oakland

7. June - Work trip to Washington. Left work to go explore the city and do something worthwhile whilst there. History here was crazy, still want to go back.

8. July - Going to DCI Denton whilst in Dallas and seeing Bluecoats

9. August - First ig post that reached an audience. Did not expect this one to be my first big post, but it was, and it started my ig page

10. September - Cousin Mitchell’s wedding in Switzerland. taught all the Swiss friends line dancing

12. November - Leigh HS percussion tech pic. Thank you Lane and Stuart for all of the guidance and help with being a first and second year instructor. Learned a lot from these two.

13. November - End of season pic with Del Mar HS percussion. Such a fun season, winter season now with them too!
