Lilia Kovka’s @lilia.kovka work centers on psychological and sociological observations and their translation into physical space. She creates subtle, layered works in which signs and symbols occupy skin, fade on gravestones, or become woven into nightwear.

Her conceptual approach extends into sculptural ceramics. Interested in the relationship between human and material, Kovka deliberately withdraws her own presence, allowing space for the ceramic’s inherent dynamics.

Born in 1982 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, she emigrated to Germany in 1990. She studied sculpture with Pia Stadtbäumer at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and with Gregor Schneider and Tilman Wendland at the Berlin University of the Arts.
