POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

✨All are invited to the opening reception to celebrate Pamela Reilly’s exhibit in the Upper Gallery, “A Sense of Place: Recent Paintings of Hoboken.”✨

Hoboken-based artist Pamela Reilly draws on photography, memory, and personal experience to create vivid paintings of people and landscapes. After a period devoted to caring for her family, Reilly returns to exhibition with a solo presentation at the Hoboken Historical Museum.

Reilly studied art and art history at Smith College and the College of Fine Arts at Boston University. She continued her education at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts in New York. She also studied at the New York Feminist Art Institute, where artist Faith Ringgold introduced her to the tradition of story quilts with their focus on community.

Pamela’s acrylic paintings depict recognizable people and places, usually in an urban setting. She paints with strong color and a clear rhythm.

She walks around Hoboken without a predetermined route, taking photographs to document what she sees, paying particular attention to the time of day and the season. When an image takes hold – a striking sky, perhaps – she uses those photos and her understanding of air, space, and color to start a painting.

The body of work in ‘A Sense of Place: Recent Paintings of Hoboken’ marks a shift from her earlier exhibitions. Rhythm has become essential to unifying her paintings and detail takes a backseat to the overall feeling. She wants a person standing in front of the canvas to experience a story unfolding over time.

We couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming exhibit. To us, Pamela gives the world through her paintings, while sharing her astute observations of our beloved Hoboken. 🎨

🗓️ Sunday, November 15th

🏡 BEFORE THE HIGH-RISES, THERE WERE THE HOMES THAT BUILT JERSEY CITY.

Before the luxury towers and million-dollar views, there were families on front porches, neighbors looking out for neighbors, children playing on the block, and generations of hardworking people who made Jersey City what it is today. ❤️

From Greenville to the Heights, Bergen-Lafayette to Journal Square, the West Side to Downtown — our greatest asset has never been our skyline. It's always been OUR PEOPLE.

And now, some of those same families are facing rising property taxes and housing costs that threaten their ability to stay.

So instead of accelerating tax lien sales, we're ACCELERATING THE HELP! 💙💛

Through JC Keep It Ours, a community initiative of We Care Movement, Inc. (501(c)(3)), we're building a community-powered Homeowner Stability Fund to help prevent displacement.

But this movement needs more than views, likes and shares. It needs YOU.

🏠 JERSEY CITY HOMEOWNERS: Register now to be notified when applications for assistance become available. Applications are not yet open.

💛 FORMER JERSEY CITY RESIDENTS: You may have moved away, but Jersey City never really leaves you. Give back to the city that gave you so much.

🤝 BUSINESSES, CORPORATIONS & FOUNDATIONS: Become a founding sponsor. Invest in the neighborhoods and families that make Jersey City extraordinary.

🙌 EVERYONE: Donate. Volunteer. Connect us with a partner. Spread the word.

The speech started a conversation. Now let's turn that conversation into a MOVEMENT.

Because we can celebrate Jersey City's future without displacing the people who built its past.

🎉 From local newsrooms to national news!

We’re celebrating an exciting milestone for one of our Statewide Paid Internship Program alumni!

Congratulations to Isabella Burke @isabellajburkereports , who recently began her new role as a News Associate at @cbsnews! 👏

This summer, Isabella was placed with NJCIC grantee @sliceofculture, where she reported on community issues in Jersey City and Hudson County, strengthened her interviewing and multimedia storytelling skills, and built a portfolio of published work.

But Isabella’s journey with NJCIC began before this summer! In 2025, we also supported her internship with the @njstatehousenews service, where she gained valuable experience covering state government and politics.

Together, these experiences helped Isabella develop the skills, confidence, and portfolio to take the next step in her journalism career.

💬 “Those internships helped me immensely, not only by giving me reporting experience, but also by allowing me to build a strong portfolio of published work that I could share throughout the interview process.”

Through our Statewide Paid Internship Program, NJCIC connects aspiring journalists with local newsrooms across New Jersey, creating opportunities to gain hands-on reporting experience, develop professional skills, and tell stories that matter to their communities.

When we invest in emerging journalists, we’re investing in the future of local news.

Congratulations, Isabella! We’re proud to have played a part in your journey and can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!

Instead of accelerating tax lien sales, we need to ACCELERATE THE HELP! 🏠💙💛

Last Wednesday, I addressed the Jersey City Council about the financial pressures facing longtime homeowners and the importance of connecting residents with resources before they reach a crisis point.

We can be proactive about protecting the people who have spent decades building our neighborhoods.

That's part of why we launched JC Keep It Ours — a community-led effort to help prevent displacement and support vulnerable homeowners.

🎥 Watch my remarks, share your thoughts, and learn how you can get involved.
