POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This weekend I had the privilege of being honored by the Patapso River Maryland Chapter of The Links (@prclinks) as a part of their annual Women in the Arts program @morganstateu.

Their theme, Leading The Change: Women Shaping A Sustainable Future, honored me amongst a company of Black women who are both artists and change makers in their respective fields.

It was especially meaningful to receive this honor at home because may folks never forget, I’m from Baltimore.

Congratulations to all the honorees (listed below) and many thanks to The Links for this recognition.

This week I had the pleasure of being a Guest Artist at @twudance. I had such a good time sharing with their undergrad and grad students.

From teaching @slmdances rep in technique classes, sharing creative practice in composition and through a lecture with performance video, to sharing thoughts on dance education, and sharing 15 years of personal and professional history with MFAs because I *wish* someone had told me a REAL, unfiltered story of life as an artist when I was imagining my life post-grad school.

Many thanks to the division faculty and staff for your hospitality. I hope to see you again!

38th revolution PART 1!

This year has been FULL and truly WILD. It has changed me more than I could have ever anticipated. I am grateful to be here, immersed in the realest support and LOVE. And I get to make art with brilliant people (who I also love) all the time. This life!!!!

I imagined us.
I imagined us being easy in the light, free of trauma, free of conflict—FREE. I tried my best to convert what I saw into letters, etch thoughts onto the page. But We were always more than a book could ever hold, wider, deeper and without edges. I never truly felt my words alone could do us justice. But on Thursday, November 6th, so much of what I’d imagined, I saw. I heard. I felt. Ideas in my head were transformed from reverie to memory. I witnessed my own words reflected against paint, poem, and voice—against drum, dance, and chord. One idea became many. Food in abundance, music, joy, brilliance, light and power. Libations poured over vibrations. On a Thursday night in Tribeca, what I’d imagined came to life. We shined together. Don’t gotta imagine no more. Just gotta keep on shining. Big, big thanks to @yari.mercedes. You already know it’s not possible without your vision, creativity, and brilliance. To @lenawaithe, my dear friend and prototype, thank you for always showing up for us. And to my wife, @riannsteele, thank you for making space for me so I could make space for us. To all the artists, to all the collaborators, to all those who came to celebrate the culture, and all those who hold space to imagine, I see you, and you know I got you.
Us. Before, now, and forever.
Event video coming tomorrow, link to all the event photos over at @unothrone (bio).
