This year marked my 6th year volunteering with Empower’s Mother’s Day Retreat 🤍

I first got involved with this incredible organization back in the fall of 2019, and my very first retreat was actually virtual because well. 2020. To be here in person year after year — watching attendees grow up, witnessing the strength, resilience, and love within this community — is something that’s hard to even put into words. It’s powerful every single time.

I’m so honored not only to be part of Empower, but to also bring members of my Petaloúda team along to experience the magic of this organization firsthand. And to my friends Mia, Jessica, Abbie and Pat who are here together every year… it means more than you know. We all carry our own reasons why this weekend feels so important to our hearts. 🫶

On a day that can feel heavy or challenging for so many, this community creates connection, healing, purpose, and love.

So deeply grateful for all of it. Thank you Cara for what you’ve created, and thank you to every single person involved in making this retreat so special year after year 💜✨

and to all of our clients. your support makes it possible for us to support the causes we care so deeply about. thank you. 🦋

with love and gratitude,
xxalexandra

ps. may i say the therapy dogs were an excellent addition this year! 🙌

Meet Sam 💛

As Empower’s Vice President of Programs and Operations, Sam brings a deep sense of purpose and over 15 years of nonprofit expertise to our community. After the loss of her beautiful mother, Anne Marie, when she was just 17, she felt a powerful calling to help build the very support system she once longed for.

Sam has been part of the Empower family since the beginning, serving as one of our first volunteers and mentors, a role she still holds today, having been matched with her mentee, Erin, for over a decade. Now, based in Virginia Beach, she uses her passion for connection to oversee the systems that make our mission possible. When she isn’t managing operations, Sam finds balance by catching sunsets at the beach, volunteering locally, or bringing her competitive spirit to the kickball field. We’re so lucky to have her leadership on our team!

It was a powerful day of connection and reflection as our Board of Directors recently came together for Empower’s Annual Board Retreat Meeting, graciously hosted at Bain Capital in the heart of Boston. We’re so thankful for this inspiring group of leaders helping us reach and support more children and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent each year. 🧡

To Dave Clayman, Shannon Ewer, Ryan McManus, Jules Kelley, Cynthia Whipple, Skip Allen, Danielle Weisberg, Justin Schall, James Meyer, Jenna Mathis, and Jennifer Black - thank you for your tireless service and your unwavering dedication to advancing our mission!

This weekend was @weareempower_ 2nd annual Father’s Day event at Gillette stadium!

It was such an honor to be a part of the amazing crew that planned this day. Sam, Leigh, our committee, our volunteers, all of Empower- WOW! What a special day! I’ve still not fully processed it all but what I do know is that my heart is FULL ❤️

I honestly can’t believe that I get to turn my own pain into purpose. Empowering others to honor their dads while I honor my own is a one of a kind feeling.

It’s been such an incredible journey with this organization, starting as a mentor and now a program coordinator for girls of father loss. Matching incredible women and young girls together that both know the pain of losing their dads.

Watching it all come together this weekend was extra special. Meeting our mentors and mentees in person and seeing all the love, fun and connection around the room- my goodness, what gift to witness. Our hope was to make the day memorable for you, but you made the day just as memorable for us! 🫶🏻

I’m so grateful to you Cara, for creating spaces where children feel less alone in their grief. Your message is one I will never tire of spreading ✨
