First time I did the NYABF was in 2011. It was a formative time and I met some incredible artists. Recounting memories on this trip made it evident that time has blurred much details from past years. I am grateful to have experienced and grown so much. Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm with the works we shared at this edition of @printedmatter_artbookfairs. I am grateful to have connected with you and to see you hold our books in your hands. Highlights of the trip include walking on the High Line for the first time. Sandwiched by long days at the fair, I was moved to see the flowering trees. Our generous host @paulwindlewang took us to some neighbourhood gems: Flushing, Empanadas Cafe, the Unisphere at night was unbelievable. Thank you Paul. An exceptional evening at the MoMA for a screening of Joan Jonas’ films and hear her discussion with Chus Martínez. Wow. A pleasure to travel and see (and taste) the world with my dearest @klassic_kool_shoppe Love you ! Bonus Sarah Sze at the airport sent us off back to Toronto. See you next time NYC 💛

Bodies of Water is inspired by the delicate and timeless relationship between freshwater mussels and the health of our waterways. Often referred to as “living rocks”, freshwater mussels play an essential role in quietly filtering our rivers. Today, nearly half of the world’s freshwater mussels are listed as imperilled. This rapid population decline reflects habitat alteration, pollution and the loss of fish hosts. The book, a small object with ceramic shell-like covers, is held together by intricate butterfly-shaped accordion folds. Within these pages, plankton, algae, and detritus flow against the backdrop of moving waters, around and through the bivalve. Through its nonlinear form, the accordion bookwork illustrates all bodies of water as a connected entity. It emphasizes the impact of water health on the ecology that freshwater mussels depend on to survive.
