And the first Versescape is a wrap! Thank you to everyone who came out to the launch and guided tours, you helped make this first Versescape a success! I wish I had all the right words to say, but honestly, I’m still processing everything. Where I am now is not where I was when I started, so I’m still taking that shift in internally.

Thank you to Natalia and Heather who helped me bring this vision to life!! I’m grateful to have created this first one alongside you and in such a great space. Your expertise with putting on shows helped make the overall experience that much better. Be sure to follow @smallworksphilly for more unique arts events.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing more from this first Versescape on my page. ELA allows for others to be creators in the Versescape, so I’m excited to share the creativity that is a byproduct of the space. You can follow me @adssdesigns for updates.

I thought about ending this on some clever note.

But for today and this post, I just want to end by saying

Thank you.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month…

An upcoming April workshop called “A Poetics of Recovery” is now live on our Eventbrite:

If you’re looking for a creative community and an alternative form of art therapy, this workshop is for you.

Join us at @peoplesgalleryproject on April 6th for an in-person workshop that is for literally everyone and anyone going through a hard time right now.

Hosted by @j.lee.meads , this is a safe and intimate setting (we’re only selling max ten tickets) for those recovering from addictive behavior and/or substances. Share as little or as much as you want without judgment or fear. Nothing here is shared outside of the space—we are creating a closed container for people to express, heal, and write out what they need to release emotionally.

Coffee/tea is available to grab before and after the event at @goodkarmaphilly down the street if people connect and want to hang out even longer after the event.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Joseph (jleemeads@gmail.com) for more information about the event.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 SOUND ON! Time to reveal what we have in store for Collide Issue 10 🥳

Full video transcript:

Jose: So, yeah, Souletri is a small but mighty community based out of Philly, originally from New York City.

We do free open mics, free programing, showcases, and festivals. We do a little bit of that throughout the city, West Philly and also in North Philly as well. And so we’re excited that this summer we’ll be bringing our community to Collide zine’s community for a very special summer edition of Souletri and Collide called “Summer of Soul” —Hope to see a lot of you in it!

Submissions are open right now. The theme of it is the summer—What triggers the summer for you— smells, food. Senses.

So we would love for all of you to be a part of it. The link is on the website.

Lindsey: Yes. Okay. So just to add on to that, Souletri and Collide. We’re are colliding!

And we’re doing our first ever collaboration addition of the zine. So it’s, our group, combining with another very strong poetry group. Now, does that mean you have to be part of both groups? Absolutely not. If you have something that fits the theme and you want to participate, you’re welcome to apply. Totally free to submit.

And we’re very excited to be doing this because that means our next release party will be a combo of Souletri and Collide people. It’s going to be at a secret to be determined venue. So stay tuned and please check out Souletri on Instagram when you can. And your next event is March 23rd. Right?

March 23rd, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Two Locals Brewing, which is at 3675 Market Street on the corner of 37th. It’s a free show. Just come on in and come hang with us.

I thought my final post for my upcoming Versescape was going to be Part 6 of my rollout, but with each of those posts so carefully planned, I thought it’d be good to share something a little more spontaneous before the launch tomorrow night.

One- I’m super grateful for Natalia and Heather, the co-directors @smallworksphilly. What I’m bringing to life couldn’t happen without them. The pictures are from the beginning of the setup on the first floor. Hopefully can give you a glimpse into the space I’m creating.

As I’ve been promoting this Versescape for the last six weeks, everything has been a bit of a blur. Each week it felt like stepping farther into the unknown. Challenging what others, maybe even myself, thought was possible.

I don’t have the words yet for what I feel. I’m not scared. I don’t feel imposter syndrome. Nor am I looking to convince anyone of anything. I’m confident in what I created.

But I know there’s no looking back.

Not because I’m unable to stop, but because each week I leaned a little bit farther into my vision. The the farther I went, the more it felt like the only place I should’ve been all along. I feel right at home introducing things people have never heard of into the world. Versescapes and ELA come from inside me. Though the names and concepts might be foreign, I feel I’m finally in my element.

I’ve created from scratch so there’s naturally bumps. Problems to think through. Some people might not understand it yet, and that’s okay. I’ve learned making something new makes people uncomfortable. That comes with the territory. I think I’m just really good at listening to myself at this point in life. I’m just not as easily phased.

Anyway, finalizing the setup today. I plan to deliver something special for the folks that are able to make it out tomorrow.

The first ADSS Versescape.

Tickets for sale in bio.

Until then,
