January 27, 2024 — We ended Week 3 of production prep with some exciting drama. One of our lead actors, who all but signed on the dotted line, and whose agent had been dragging their heels for weeks on closing the deal, took a job on a bigger film, leaving us scrambling to re-cast the part. January 21, 2024 — I’m writing at the end of our second week of prep from the production office on Yucca and Vine, around the corner from the famous Capitol Records Building, in the heart of Hollywood. A portion of the Walk of Fame runs up Vine and I step by the stars each morning on the way from the parking garage. Toni Morrison once said “This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear.”
That said, I’m choosing to lean into my art and celebrate and empower other creatives. ❤️

We recently wrapped filming of our short film, EMERGENCY CONTACT this past weekend and I am filled gratitude and so honored to have worked with such a skilled & kind group of people!

@sheistyler and I put our hearts into the development of this story and the everyone involved with bringing it to the screen handled it with so much care.

Producing + being one of the lead’s parent has been a very singular and humbling experience. But I was in awe, undone, tickled, deeply emotional, impressed, and taken aback by my daughter Sky’s performance and her presence on set!

@emergencycontact_short is a timely story about a deeply Southern experience and having childlike faith to weather the storms of life.

Our crew is composed of Baton Rouge and New Orleans locals and all of our departments are women-led.

Southern stories should be told by Southern filmmakers and our goal is to continue to do exactly that.

We are currently raising funds, every dollar helps us pay our crew and cover post-production costs (editing, color, sound, visual effects, film fest expenses, etc.)

I’m so proud of my two incredible students @ericmcarney and @hannahpapizan from @loveactingbr who wrote their own short film and submitted it @lafilmprize ! a small collection of my favorite BTS photos from my @lafilmprize short that’s currently in post production.

Writing and producing my first short taught me a lot about the film process, but this art form is collaborative and I couldn’t have done it without this amazing crew helping to bring the vision to life. They helped turn it in to something special.

Can’t wait to finish putting all the bells and whistles on this project so that I can finally share it with the world. Keep your eyes peeled. More to come.
