The best semester getting to design with my best friend ❤️
Here’s a look into our Final project.

For our project we were presented with the site of ex Mattatoio. our approach was redesigning the space while including the existing historical structure to define the spaces. We pursued this approach by grafting on top of the existing structure and allowing our new design to hug the building. We took inspiration from the reading - The Garden of Forking paths by Jorge Luis Borges. The reading is a reflection on a professors life and triumph experienced during WWl. The theme with the story reflects a combined series of decisions leaving to an overall endpoint. Each path we including evokes different emotion while walking throughout the site.
Site plan
- in this drawing we wanted to represent the pathway as a circulation integrating a series of different radiuses curving around the existing functions . Also allowing a new gentle gesture of organization for the market that takes place on the weekend.
Exterior render of overhang
- a snapshot of approaching the site from the northwest side. The render reveals the overhang as well as the structural elements we used to support our grafted building.
- The Skin on this upper level is created through panels that consisted of thin metal mesh. Each panel has its own connecting point creating a larger zig zag formation , connecting w the overall curving concept. The panels allow for a series of shadows throughout the interior public library.
Bottom left render
- The view is on the wrapping balcony on the second floor that hugs the outdoor courtyard below. This exterior is used as a transitional space or an area of conjugation.
- Leaving the courtyard exposed for existing use as an outdoor gallery space.
Amphitheater Render
- another great representation of how we allowed the existing historical context to drive the spacing of our design. Leaving The Aurelian Wall as a backdrop of the theater. This allows the closure for the function without feeling confined.
