Inside Center of Knowhere. Where artistic perspectives meet. Across the gallery, works by artists from different generations and stages of their careers come together in conversation. Each brings a distinct perspective shaped by material, memory, identity, and lived experience. From emerging and mid-career voices to established artists whose practices have earned significant recognition, the installation reflects the breadth of contemporary artistic expression and the connections that emerge when these works share a space. What new perspectives emerge when we experience these works together? This long weekend on Martha’s Vineyard, we invite you to step inside Center of Knowhere, explore the installation, and discover the artists whose work continues to inspire inquiry and connection. Not on the island? Explore the artists and available works through the link in our bio, or contact us to arrange a virtual visit. A season of art, inquiry & connection. Today marks the close of Fault Lines and Loïs Mailou Jones: Sphere of Influence, bringing an extraordinary chapter of Knowhere Art Gallery’s 2026 Martha’s Vineyard program to a close. Since June 19, three exhibitions, Held in Tension, Fault Lines, and Loïs Mailou Jones: Sphere of Influence, have brought together artists, histories, ideas, and perspectives that invited us to look more closely, ask questions, and engage with one another through art. We are deeply grateful to the artists who entrusted us with their work, to our collectors and collaborators, and to everyone who walked through our doors, joined a conversation, attended a program, returned with a friend, or simply spent time with the art. You are an essential part of what makes Knowhere a place for connection and inquiry. While these exhibitions come to a close, the conversation continues. Beginning this week, our Martha’s Vineyard program comes together at Center of Knowhere, 73 Circuit Avenue, with a curated presentation of available works by artists featured throughout our summer exhibitions. We look forward to continuing the conversations, connections, and discoveries that began this summer and welcoming you through the end of October. Siena Smith, hush and breathe, 2026. “Where does Black play and curiosity happen? What games do we play for fun, communication, and survival? How are Black children and adults nurtured, understood, protected, punished? How is our humanity treated? This work imagines Black play as a sacred geography; an ever-shifting territory carved out between hypervisibility and erasure. It lives in the corners of classrooms where Black girls whisper stories too magical for the curriculum. It blooms in corner stores, in backyards, in living-room dance offs, on front steps filled with laughter. It survives in moments recovered from a world that too often decides what Black girlhood and womanhood are allowed to be.” Experience Siena Smith’s work in Fault Lines, now on view at Knowhere Art Gallery. Knowhere Art Gallery 91 Dukes County Avenue · Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard Open Mon-Sat: 11-5 · Sun: 12-5 @risdalumni @provjournal @thenewportdaily @pvdmonthly #fineart #artgallery #artcurator #contemporarymuseum #artcollector

❣️ Recently we visited the Black Biennial (@blackbiennial), where members and staff enjoyed a tour of the exhibition with its curators and artists. There was so much connection, and we are grateful to engage with the work of Black artists in the region. We also enjoyed treats from Small Format (@smallformatpvd), a local worker-owned co-op café, cultural space, and gallery. One student who created a masquerade for the first time connected with bashexo (artist/Black Trust alumni), whose masquerade practice is rooted in Lucumí tradition (an Afro-Diasporic spiritual tradition). It was memorable to see artists recognize themselves in each other's work. Thank you to ACO Fellow Siena Smith (@smither_), and RISD student curators Karma, King, and Khalil for hosting Ujima at RISD (@risdmuseum) Black Biennial show and member arts committee member and photographer Sun for capturing the moments.
