POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We’re halfway through Dutch Design Week, and today Heirlooming Studio is taking a little break. ✨

But before we dive back in, let’s look back at the crafts we’ve explored so far – from Arraiolos needlework rugs and wool weaving to doily hat making and encrypted embroidery. A beautiful mix of techniques, stories, and hands-on discoveries.

We’ll be back from Thursday, every day from 11:00 to 18:00, with a different craft to explore every day. See you around! 🧶

I got the opportunity to share some of my fibre artwork and processes in a mini fabric to yarn workshop over the weekend as part of @rhizomatic.ldn Raw Edge Fest.

It was such a cute day, and getting to share the space with @snart.98 whose work with knitting and creative coding I find really interesting, was very inspiring. As well as getting to chat to @dazy_chains , another knitter I’ve followed for a while now, about their work with tech and knitting machines!

As someone with intense imposter syndrome, especially when it comes to making and sharing my work, being around other fibre artists approaching knit in such innovative and fresh ways has really encouraged me to be a bit less afraid of putting myself out there.

Many thanks to @rochefort_chloe for organising the festival, and the lovely @meryls.world for building @rhizomatic.ldn the pinkest cutest community space in all of London

Join us in bringing fun and connections into e-textiles by creating pair of gloves with ‘half a circuit’ of LEDs.

Join us for an afternoon of “Wired connections”, where we will have some hands-on fun with electronic connections in e-textiles. Each person at the workshop will create a pair of gloves with ‘half a circuit’ of LEDs and decorations on each glove. The circuit will only be completed when two of the gloves are touched together, either by the wearer alone or by forming a circle with the group. The workshop will demonstrate the basics of e-textiles and allow for a lot of relaxed creativity. We will provide all necessary materials and components, as well as offer suggestions for future projects.

Everyone is welcome!

The workshop will be run by Sophie Nadel (@snart.98 sophienadel.com), a creative technologist who aims to break down barriers to tech by encouraging fun and exploration. #thingstodoinlondon #londonevents #londonworkshop #creativetechnology #eastlondon

✨ WIRED CONNECTIONS ✨
(Dutch below)

Grab a needle, thread, and gloves: on 26/09 we're getting hands-on with e-textiles 🧤💡

Join artist Sophie Nadel @snart.98 for an afternoon workshop making LED gloves, each holding "half a circuit." Touch two gloves together and the magic happens: clasp your own hands, or form a circle with the group to complete the circuit ⚡🔌

Expect embroidery, conductive thread, a bit of electronics theory, and lots of relaxed creativity. No experience needed, we provide everything.

🗓️ 26 September
🕑 14:00–17:00
📍 BlaBlaLab

Sophie's practice blends textiles, tech, and craft, slowing technology down and making it tactile, stitch by stitch.

Made possible with support from @cultuur_eindhoven 🙏

Book a free ticket to attend this workshop led by designer and creative technologist Sophie Nadel on Saturday 19 September at Perfect Lives.

You’ll be shown how to translate information into code and embroider it onto a personal item, using traditional textile practice to interrogate technology’s growing presence in our lives.

The workshop is part of the public programme for Softwear, an exhibition curated by Kira Wainstein that brings together work by six contemporary artists to explore the intersecting histories of textiles and computation.

The exhibition runs 18 September – 17 October at No Show Space and is an apexart International Open Call Winner.

Tickets for the workshop can be booked via the link in bio @kirawainstein
