⭐ Meet our inaugural Alumni Lab. ⭐

12 cross-sector organizations from previous New Profit Catalyze cohorts advancing access and opportunities in their communities.

This cohort was born from grantee feedback: they highlighted the need for ongoing flexible funding and peer community to navigate the current moment.

Federal funding cuts, declining institutional trust, and uncertainty have destabilized the sector. Yet, the proximity of these organizations to the communities they serve holds immense opportunity for impact.

That's what we designed the Alumni Lab to provide:

🔹$50,000 in unrestricted funding
🔹Advisory support
🔹Direct access to a community of fellow changemakers

Click the link in our bio to learn more about the cohort!

Follow along as they advance their missions and build long-term impact ⬇️

⚡️2,400 Peloton strength classes, and one very special one⚡️

A little more than a year ago, after taking a cycling class at Peloton’s studio for the first time, I wrote these words: “Getting into the studio, taking a class, being the first as a little person, proving what is possible, is not endgame for me. It never was. It is just the beginning.” This is was the next step.

Back in June I invited friends in my disability community into Peloton’s studio to take a strength class with @loganaldridge , alongside my community of both disabled & non-disabled Peloton members.

In the words of Logan, this session was specifically designed “with universal design in mind”, meaning: it was not “just” an adaptive strength class, it was not “just” designed for disabled bodies. This was a class for EVERY body...

And again, this was not the end game. This was just the next step.

In honor of World Maternal Mental Health Day, we’re thrilled to introduce you to our community partner: Bonded By Baby!

Bonded By Baby, a program at @mountsinainyc , supports new parents through the crucial first year after childbirth.

In the United States, 62 percent of first-time parents report feeling lonely. Bonded By Baby addresses this by connecting new parents with a local cohort of other parents and healthcare professionals. Through weekly calls and in-person outings, the cohorts provide support and connection over the multi-month program.

We’re so proud to be a community partner with Bonded By Baby and support the mental health of their team and community through our weekly trauma-informed yoga series.

For the general public and any new parents looking for support, we also offer free virtual yoga classes available multiple times a week to support your mental health and healing needs. To sign up for a class, follow the link in our bio above!

Be a voice for mothers in need, like Allie Jones.

After moving to New York City, Allie dedicated herself to helping others as a certified peer recovery advocate. But when she became pregnant, her life took an unexpected turn. Allie wasn’t in a stable relationship, couldn’t afford to raise a child on her own, and was living in a rented room that didn’t allow children. Overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, and the pressures of survival, Allie barely made it through her pregnancy.

Desperate for support, Allie found the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), a Robin Hood-funded program for low-income, first-time mothers. Through NFP, Allie was connected with a nurse who offered guidance and resources during her pregnancy and postpartum period. But after her daughter Rory was born, Allie sank into a deeper depression. She felt disconnected from her baby and was terrified of losing her. That’s when her nurse recommended Social Creatures' Bonded by Baby @socialcreaturz, a program for new mothers struggling with postpartum depression.

Allie joined the program and, for the first time, felt seen and understood. Week by week, the support of other mothers and the program’s leaders helped her emerge from the darkness. “I want you to know, and I don’t say this lightly, this social creature saved me and my baby’s life,” Allie shared. The compassion and care she received allowed her to rebuild her confidence, experience the unconditional love she had longed for, and provide Rory with the mother she deserved.

Today, Allie and Rory are thriving. Rory is a bright, happy toddler, and Allie is determined to finish grad school and give back to her community. Reflecting on her journey, Allie credits the Robin Hood-supported programs and the people who invested in her life for making the impossible possible. “Standing here today, I can tell you that’s how we made it.” By empowering mothers like Allie, Robin Hood is helping to break the cycle of poverty and create brighter futures for families across New York City.

Check back for other "Faces of Poverty Fighters" throughout January at the link in our bio and learn how you can be a poverty fighter.

Congratulations to our 2024 Heroes: Gabriel of @CUNYASAP | ACE, Allie of @socialcreaturz, and John B. King, Jr. of @SUNY.

These individuals exemplify what it means to overcome incredible obstacles, no matter the odds.

They remind us that given the right opportunities, New Yorkers not only step up for themselves, their families, and their communities – they become the heroes they were always meant to be.

This is a long video, but I assure you it is worth a watch. It is always a privilege to work with @socialcreaturz, but when we get to see the impact of our programs so clearly it is humbling to know we had a small hand in this. I am so grateful to Allie for sharing her story with such bravery and in such an unflinching manner. My takeaway from Allie’s story is just how crucial community involvement in care is when people are going through tough transitions in life. It isn’t a “nice to have”, it is a “must have”. Every single day, whether it be new parents like Allie, or people with #LongCOVID, #spinalcordinjury, #MECFS, chronic #lyme and hundreds of other conditions, we gain so much value from allowing those with lived experience in to the care community. Thank you a million times over for @robinhoodnyc for funding this crucial and lifesaving work. We are so proud to be the first site for Bonded By Baby 🥹😍🗽👼

We’re excited to share this week’s episode about a game changing company working towards teaching a more representative version of history to kids. “An Innovative Toy Company that Promotes Inclusive History with Dr. Rose Perry & Rajiv Fernandez, Co-Founders of @Historicons, Part 1” is available now on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Stitcher - see link in our bio.

Historicons is an educational toys and games company and activism platform that promotes diversity in representation co-founded by an architect-artist and published children’s author, and a research scientist with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Physiology specializing in child development. The founders felt like they didn’t see people like themselves (disabled, female, queer, minority, etc.) depicted in the media and history growing up and want to change that for kids today.

In addition to Historicons, make sure to check-out the amazing work that Rose and Rajiv are doing @socialcreaturz & @lil.icon

Stay tuned for part 2 of this interview dropping next week, & follow us here or wherever you get your podcasts for weekly episodes!
