Ramadan Day 23! Today we have Sofia Haq. Sofia is the
Founder of Muslim Women Professionals (MWP) and
Ambassador at United State of Women (USOW). Ramadan in SoCal is an opportunity to explore the diversity of our community. My mom is Mexican so Ramadan meant reconnecting with family friends who were mixed like myself. At our local masjid, there are so many Latina Muslims like my mom. All of the Latin moms would get together and make Mexican food after taraweeh. It was beautiful seeing our community embrace cultures like ours that were outside the norm of the Muslim community. It also reminded me to get out of my comfort zone and explore other cultures too. We have so many amazing small businesses in SoCal owned by Muslims from all ethnic backgrounds and so I always loved going out of my way to support them and embrace their cultures.
I started an organization called Muslim Women Professionals (MWP). I wanted to create something that uplifted women in our community. Muslim women face unique challenges and I wanted a space that could be a haven while also providing resources that tailored to our unique experiences both personally and professionally. I’m in awe of the impact we’ve made in such a short amount of time Alhamdulillah and that we have women who follow us from all over the world. Most importantly, I’m grateful to have an amazing team who works hard every day to bring our ideas to life.

Every Ramadan is a huge reminder of the loss of my dad who passed in 2014. Ramadan was his favorite time of the year. He loved going to the masjid, having iftar as a family, and seeing us embrace our faith. This year, we’ve made a huge effort to cook more Pakistani dishes at home that my dad loved and make an effort to make time for family. Whether it’s setting aside time once a week for movie night or having meals as a family, we realize now how important family time really is and that we can’t take these moments for granted.

In these last ten nights of Ramadan, may we continue to seek Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

In our episode with @youssrakandil , we touched upon the importance of intention. We know that some of you may feel like you didn’t do enough this Ramadan - but remind yourself that anyone who seeks Allah in any capacity is a true winner.
___________________________________________

Ramadan is a gift to us from Allah - it is not meant to be a burden. This month may take a lot of effort from our end - but the effort Allah wants to see is one where we remain consistent in trying to connect to Him.
___________________________________________

May Allah protect us, may we all remain in good health and inshallah Allah is pleased with every bit of attempt on our end to seek Him. Ameen.

Like I said in the previous post, each episode in the series ends with a clip of a guided meditation that is perhaps the best meditation to which I’ve ever listened. It was co-produced by Evelyn from the Internets and Lauren Ash / Original score by Muhsinah (yes, the Grammy-nominated Muhsinah). Dm to let me know this episode was worth it.

So, yes, I realize it's been a month. Tbh I was and maybe to some extent still am someone who thinks art or, more specifically, creating it is unnecessary or unimportant or only worth it after all the other almost infinite responsibilities and tasks and intellectually rigorous work is completed.
______________________________

But art and making it is intellectually rigorous. In fact, in the unannounced hiatus I took from this I saw a post on ig (follow @aminaofskiveo) that essentially said, during these unexpected (for some) times one of the first things to which we fled is the arts, entertainment...media.
______________________________

When I am afraid and searching for meaning in something incomprehensible or reprehensible, art has a way of injecting displacing emotions.

This episode and its partner, to be released tomorrow, should prepare you for the astounding (not an overstatement) lineup of guests and, importantly, topics to be published rapidly.
