What happens when caring for the land becomes a collective practice? ‘Florestania’, an Organismo 2026 case study, explores the communal practices that help protect and care for Galicia’s communal lands. Through ‘The Atlas of the Commons Assembly’, the research team has developed a participatory digital platform to document these territories, bring together institutional and community knowledge, and strengthen collective decision-making. The prototype is conceived as a living archive of the territory, one that can progressively expand through a series of case studies, with artistic accompaniment (pulso) by Paulo Tavares. A tool for mapping, documenting, and supporting the protection of these communal lands. ‘Revised Cartographies’ was part of the International Emerging Workshop at the UIA 2026 World Congress of Architects in Barcelona June 19 to June 27, 2026 It was a pleasure to be part of the International Emerging Workshop along with so many wonderful studio and architectural practices. Thank you @uia2026bcn @bajetgirame for the invitation to hold a workshop for such an important congress and wonderful participants. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to be there in person but I had the support and chance to collaborate with Sofia Yanez Perteagudo @sofiayanezp and Lauren-Loïs Duah @laurenlois.wip who led the workshop with the upmost care and enthusiasm. 𝗘𝗹 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗹𝗮 𝗔𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘀 es el caso de estudio impulsado por el @centrodeartefmjj dentro de 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, el programa internacional de investigación presentado esta semana en el @museothyssen. Desarrollado con la figura de pulso de la mano del arquitecto brasileño @pauloxtavares y el equipo de investigadores, el proyecto analiza cómo los montes vecinales en mano común pueden contribuir a la justicia ambiental, la memoria y la restauración ecológica de Galicia. El resultado es un primer prototipo de archivo del territorio: una plataforma digital participativa concebida para documentar, proteger y fortalecer la gestión colectiva de los bienes comunes. En una segunda fase, el @centrodeartefmjj y @tba_21 estudiarán las posibilidades de desarrollo y evolución de esta herramienta. Además de 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮, Organismo 2026 reúne otros cuatro casos de estudio: _𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺: turismo y reparación ecológica. _𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: futuros climáticos y adaptación. _𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹: desinformación y tecnologías digitales. _𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳: conservación, archivos y colecciones de arte. Todos los proyectos comparten una misma pregunta: ¿cómo puede la investigación artística generar herramientas para afrontar las crisis ecológicas, sociales y culturales de nuestro tiempo?

En julio recibimos en nuestro Espacio de Producción en San Cristovo de Mouricios a Sofía Yáñez Perteagudo, una de las tres creadoras beneficiarias de la residencia artística del proyecto Territorios Productivos 2026 en Galicia. Sofía es una investigadora, artista y diseñadora gallega, actualmente afincada en Londres. Su trabajo explora el paisaje, la memoria y la ecologia a través de la cartografia digital, los entornos imersivos y la investigación desarrollada junto a la comunidad. Utilizando herramientas de arquitectura y motores de videojuegos, examina cómo los procesos extractivos y posindustriales transforman los territorios rurales, cuestionando de qué manera la tecnología puede ponerse al servicio de la memoria colectiva y la justicia ambiental. Su trabajo suele materializarse en plataformas web interactivas, películas y talleres. Es Máster en Arquitectura por el Royal College of Art de Londres. Communal Governance Systems for Territorial Reparation. Meet the working cell behind the Florestania case study, facilitated by Centro de Arte Fundación María José Jove as part of Organismo 2026. The case interrogates extractive regimes in Galicia — from mining and forest monocultures to energy infrastructures and their territorial effects — mobilizing communal land governance as a situated practice of resistance and repair, in collaboration with Fundación Montescola. The proposals emerging from this process operate across political and ecological registers, positioning forests, soils, and water systems as agents of memory, regeneration, and environmental justice. Waves Lost at Sea is now open at Centro Botín, Santander, through 1 March 2026. For centuries, coastal communities have read waves for navigation, nourishment, and joy. But dredging, sand mining, and port construction have reshaped shorelines and erased some of the world’s most remarkable breaks, from Mundaka on the Basque coast to the phosphate port of El Marsa in Western Sahara, and apartheid-era beach towns in Cape St Francis, South Africa. In Peru, Azores, Baja California, or Hawai’i, breakwaters and speculation displace communities and erase more-than-human habitats. In the name of progress, these violent processes are logged in wave height, shoreline retreat, GDP flows, and no-go swim zones. Even if waves constantly appear and disappear, some are now permanently lost, leaving traces of extractivism and seabed scars, as well as vanished underwater ecologies. Waves Lost at Sea traces a geography of disappearance through eleven breaks. Reconstructed with scientists from GeoOcean, University of Cantabria, their height, speed, and pulse are translated into a sound composition by Duval Timothy, continuously activated by performers within an installation of suspended springs. Waves are mourned through protests, lawsuits, oral histories, and fading beach signs, making the struggle over waves inseparable from the struggle over land and livelihood. Yet new forms of custodianship are emerging, from Chile’s Espacios Costeros Marinos de Pueblos Originarios to Peru’s Ley de Rompientes to Brazil’s recognition of waves as entities with legal personhood and Cantabria’s proposed 7-wave protected surf zone.
