🚀 Pure Black Joy last Wednesday! 🚀
The energy at Blackhurst Cultural Centre was unmatched for the legendary Florence Harrison, who came from far for the book launch of IN HER FLO: A Legacy of Education, edited by Loris Thomas, and interview screening.
The book contains a moving collection of testimonials celebrating Florence Harrison’s life, educational leadership, and her legacy.
But, it wasn’t just an event; it was a whole vibe packed with inspiration, deep community connection, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and overloaded happiness! 🌟💥Florence brought the ultimate star power, rolling in with her three sisters and surrounded by former students whose lives she completely transformed. 👑💖
Florence Harrison is THAT teacher because she created confidence where it was needed most. Opened doors of opportunity for her students and built a true sense of belonging in her classroom.

The space was bursting with so much love and excitement that there was a mini line up to grab copies and dive into the powerful testimonials.

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
-Marcus Mosiah Garvey

Today we honour the birth of a titan. Born August 17, 1887, in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica, Marcus Garvey ignited a global movement of Black self-determination, pride, and unity that continues to shape our world 139 years later.

Prophet. Publisher. Pan-Africanist. His vision built the largest mass movement in African diasporic history-the Universal Negro Improvement Association, and planted seeds of liberation that blossomed into independence movements across the African continent.

Happy Birthday, Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Your legacy lives in us. 🖤❤️💚

🌟I had a fantastic time interviewing Sharon Marley, who is in town promoting her new album, “Firebird.” She has an upcoming appearance August 27 in the city. Comment where and I’ll tell you😉🤗🎶
We met in the Daniel Spectrum space, Toronto, last Thursday afternoon, where she gave me some juicy details of the promotional tour.

👑Sharon Marley is a three-time Grammy-winning Jamaican vocalist, educator, and cultural steward whose artistry bridges heritage, healing, and transformation. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she began her musical career as a teenager performing with her siblings as The Melody Makers, touring globally and earning three Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album. Sharon later served as curator of the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston and has remained dedicated to cultural preservation and community upliftment through her work with the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation.

Stay tuned for more!
