BROWARD, WE DID IT!!! 🩸
Turns out when students speak up, organize, and refuse to accept “that's just how things are” as an answer, some pretty incredible things can happen.

Today, the Broward County School Board approved a Menstrual Hygiene Product Access Pilot Program, bringing us one HUGE step closer to a future where getting your period at school doesn't mean searching for a pad, asking an adult for help, or missing class just to take care of yourself.

And this isn't just a promise to make products available somewhere on campus. The approved pilot will bring free menstrual products directly into designated student restrooms at a minimum of seven schools, with plans to keep them stocked, make sure students know where to find them, and evaluate how the program could eventually expand across Broward County Public Schools.

But what makes this victory especially meaningful is how we got here. Students shared their experiences, advocates turned those stories into action, and community members showed up because they believed something as basic as menstrual access deserved to be taken seriously.

To @promote.her , @youthactionfund , every student who spoke up, and everyone who helped move this campaign forward, THANK YOU. This is what happens when young people have a seat at the table and the community shows up alongside them.

There's still work ahead as the District prepares to launch the pilot, and we'll be following every step because seven schools are a beginning, not the end of what we're working toward.

But today? We're celebrating the heck out of this win.

already enough of a plot twist, but realizing you don’t have anything with you? 🫩

It’s an experience a lot of students know way too well: your period shows up unexpectedly and suddenly you’re trying to figure out what to do next. Do I ask a friend? Go to the nurse? Tell my teacher? What if I already bled through? How much class am I about to miss just trying to find a pad or tampon?

For one student, it might become an awkward story they remember years later. For another, it’s something that keeps happening because the products they need simply aren’t available when and where they need them.

On October 13, we need students to show up at the Broward County School Board meeting and make their experiences heard. If you’ve dealt with this at school, know someone who has, or simply want to support greater menstrual access for Broward students, this is your chance to be part of the conversation.

Not sure how to attend or what showing up looks like? DM @prism.fl , @promote.her , or @youthactionfund and we’ll help you get the information you need.

Because getting your period at school can be unpredictable but having access to period products doesn’t have to be.

PRISM was proud to be part of the Menstrual Equity Resource Fair alongside organizations like @Promote.her @YouthActionFund @Sofloperiodpantry and @AHFcares coming together to share experiences, provide resources, and push this conversation forward.

Menstrual equity is about access, dignity, and making sure no one is held back because of something as basic as period care.

And the work doesn’t stop here. We’re actively working on a campaign to ensure that every school in Broward County has accessible menstrual products for students, because access shouldn’t be a privilege.

Want to be part of it? Follow along and reach out to learn how you can support this work and help us move closer to menstrual equity in schools.
