It’s amazing how quickly something you’ve done a hundred times can feel harder the second you really want to get it right.

You’ve done the prep. You have the experience. And now you’re thinking about how you’re doing it while you’re doing it, what could go wrong, whether you’re getting it right…

Which, as it turns out, is not always helpful.

It happens before presentations. Important conversations. Big decisions. Apparently, golf swings too.

And sometimes the answer isn’t more preparation or trying harder. Your brain might just need a little help getting out of the way.

Which is one of the reasons I love having @sofree_app for moments like this.

You don’t have to disappear for 30 minutes and try to become the calmest person on Earth. Use it for a couple of minutes, bring some of that activation down, and let yourself do what you already know how to do.

Because sometimes you’ve practiced enough.
Your brain just needs to stop trying to help quite so much. 😅

If you know that pattern, SoFree is linked in my bio.

Sometimes you know exactly how stressed you are. You just don’t have 30 minutes to do something about it.

You have another meeting in 10 minutes. Someone needs an answer. Your body is clearly telling you it’s stressed, but there’s nowhere in the schedule marked “go regulate your nervous system now.”

Knowing you’re stressed and actually getting your system to shift out of that stress response are two different things.

That’s a big part of why we created @sofree_app.

I kept thinking about the tools I’d use with someone sitting in my office and how to make that kind of support available in real life, when stress actually hits.

Not later that night.
Not when your schedule finally clears.
Right then.

SoFree gives you a short session you can use from your phone and watch, using the left-to-right visual, audio and vibration you’re seeing in this clip.

Because you don’t always need another thing to add to your routine. Sometimes you need something that fits into the 2 minutes you actually have.

→ If you know that feeling, SoFree is currently free at the App Store. Link in my bio.

Knowing what helps when you’re stressed is one thing. Being able to use it when your nervous system is already maxed out is another.

We have more information than ever about what supports our mental and physical health. Most of us know the basics. Sleep. Movement. Meditation. Therapy. Don’t keep pushing yourself harder when your body is already telling you it’s had enough.

But stress usually doesn’t show up when you conveniently have an hour set aside to deal with it.

A difficult conversation can happen at 9:50am, and at 10:00am you’re expected to walk into another meeting, think clearly, make a decision, and be fully present while your heart is still pounding from the first one.

As an EMDR clinician, I’d seen how useful bilateral stimulation (BLS) could be in helping clients regulate.

What kept bothering me was access. The people sitting across from me didn’t only need support during the hour they were in my office.

I kept wondering what it would look like if something I was already using clinically could be available to everyone in the actual moment stress hit.

That question is what initially got my brother @jeremymamo and me creating the idea for @sofree_app. After we unexpectedly lost our brother, Dan, the need for something simple enough to reach for during times when your nervous system is under pressure became much more personal.

Now that SoFree is out in the world, another part of the conversation has my attention.

Wearables are getting better at recognizing signs of stress before we consciously register them ourselves.

If the technology can tell something is happening inside your body, what should it actually help you do next?

I get into that in my new @authoritymagofficial interview, along with something our beta testers started using SoFree for that genuinely surprised us.

I’m proud to share that @sofree_app is officially partnering with @advancing_the_line. I’ve always had a deep respect for service members, so getting to support this community through SoFree means a lot.

ATLVets helps veterans start businesses and figure out what comes next after service. I’ve known @zack_a_knight and his organization for a few years now, and it’s clear how much his community loves and respects what he’s created.

That doesn’t happen by accident. Zack drives results and there’s no question how deeply ATLVets cares for veterans, their families, and the people who support them.

We created SoFree for the real-life situations where stress shows up before you have time to prepare for it. The moment your body is reacting, your mind is trying to catch up, and you need something simple enough to use right then.

The SoFree app uses quick bilateral stimulation sessions, a simple left-to-right rhythm, to help the body calm down from a stress response when anxiety or tension is already happening.

In our beta testing of 2,000 sessions, we measured an average 45% reduction in stress in under two minutes.

And now we get to bring that reset tool to more veterans, veteran entrepreneurs, and the people standing beside them. This is exactly the kind of impact we always hoped SoFree could have in people’s lives.

Tonight, we’re kicking off the partnership at the
@vetlanta Q3 Summit at the @cfbhall in Atlanta.

If you’re there, come find us at the SoFree booth. We’d love to see you!

Success that keeps your nervous system in survival mode isn’t the kind of success you actually wanted.

To the people around you, it looks like everything is running smoothly. You’re making the decisions, holding the standard, keeping the business moving, and staying calm enough that everyone assumes you must feel calm too.

But internally, things feel much less steady. An unanswered message feels loaded, a simple decision starts carrying more weight than it should, and your body reacts like there’s a five-alarm fire even when nothing is actually wrong.

Somewhere along the way, staying ready helped you feel safe. And when that pattern has been running for years, it doesn’t automatically turn off just because life is technically going well now.

That’s why a regulated nervous system matters.

Because your pressure response doesn’t just affect how well you function. It affects everything from the way you make decisions to the way your body experiences the life you worked so hard to build.

Inside The Internal Edge™, opening soon, we look at the patterns underneath your pressure responses so you can stop making decisions from urgency, stop reacting like every demand is an emergency, and start moving through your life from a clearer, steadier place.

Not less ambitious. Just less hijacked by the pressure that used to feel normal.

The next level of success shouldn’t just look better from the outside. It should feel better inside your body, too.

→ Save this for the next time everything looks fine, but your body disagrees.

We’ve somehow convinced ourselves that support is something we’re only allowed to reach for once we’re overwhelmed.

What we don’t spend much time asking is what waiting is quietly costing us.

Most of us don’t wake up one morning completely overwhelmed. We adapt a little at a time. We get used to the stress and tell ourselves we’ll deal with it after this project, after things calm down, after life gets a little less busy.

The problem is, life doesn’t usually slow down on its own.

@mike_orlowski and I talked about this on a recent episode of Mojo, Motivation & Mental Health and it’s a conversation I wish happened more often.

I’ve spent years watching people wait until they’re exhausted before they give themselves permission to do something that might actually help. It’s not that they don’t believe support works. They just keep convincing themselves they can hold out a little longer.

That’s exactly why my brother @jeremymamo and I created @sofree_app. We wanted to make nervous system support easier to access while life is actually happening… not only AFTER everything feels like too much.

SoFree uses guided bilateral stimulationl to help regulate your stress response. You don’t have to understand the science behind it or force yourself to relax for it to be useful. A quick 2-minute session resets your nervous system and changes your body’s responses.

Use it before difficult conversations, after a stressful meeting, sitting in the parking lot before work, when your mind won’t slow down at night, or any time you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Support shouldn’t only become an option after life starts falling apart. I’m grateful to Mike for hosting this conversation to spread that message.

If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll deal with things later, this is your reminder that “later” doesn’t have to be the only option.

SoFree is currently free at the App Store if you’d like to try it. Link in my bio.

Knowing your patterns isn’t the same as changing them.

High performers are incredibly self-aware. They can trace a response back to where it began, understand what triggered it, and explain why it makes sense.

Then pressure rises, and the old response is suddenly right there again.

That can be especially frustrating when your mind has helped you solve nearly every other problem in your life. You’ve reflected on it, connected the history to what’s happening now, and even recognize the pattern while it’s unfolding.

Now you’re not only reacting. You’re watching yourself react while thinking, “I know exactly why I’m doing this.”

After more than 15 years of working with high achievers, I’ve seen how easily self-awareness can coexist with a response that still takes over under pressure.

Analysis works. It helps you stay composed, make decisions, and keep moving when people are relying on you. But sometimes the mind gets to the explanation so quickly that you move past how the situation actually affected you.

That observation eventually led to my new EMDRIA article, You Can’t Outthink a Wound: Why High Performers Stay Stuck.

It’s also shaped a lot of my work with clients over the years.

High performers need practical ways to work with these patterns while life is actually happening… instead of only understanding their response afterward. Because these patterns affect more than how you feel. They shape how you handle feedback, lead difficult conversations, make decisions, set boundaries, and carry pressure into the rest of your day.

That’s why I love bringing this work into the real-time moments people actually need it. That’s a main focus of both The Internal Edge and SoFree.

Understanding the pattern matters. But the real shift comes the next time pressure hits and you can pause long enough to choose a different response.

You can’t think your way out of a stress response.

I was sitting with a founder mid-crisis. Bad call. Weeks of cash flow pressure sitting on his chest. He wasn’t falling apart. He was doing what high achievers do. Showing up. Holding it together. Staying functional.

I asked him to try something specific.
No breathing exercise. No talking it through. Something his brain was already built to do.

About 90 seconds in, the shift was visible... and it wasn’t subtle.

There’s a real difference between managing stress and resolving it.

Managing works. But you’re still carrying it. And carried stress doesn’t disappear. It becomes your baseline. The leader who can’t switch off, who replays every conversation, who stays a little wound up even when there’s nothing left to solve.

That’s not who you are. That’s a pattern.

If you’ve been stuck on the same problem for three days, stop reading and go for a walk. Seriously.

At some point, more thinking stops helping.

You revisit the same decision. Replay the same conversation. Look at the same problem from ten different angles. You tell yourself that if you just give it a little more thought, you’ll finally figure out the answer.

An hour later, you’re still stuck.

One of the easiest traps leaders fall into is assuming that if they haven’t found the answer yet, they just haven’t thought about it long or hard enough.

When stress is high, thinking harder feels productive. But sometimes it’s the very thing keeping us stuck.

The best way to interrupt the loop is by introducing movement, a different environment, or a novel experience. Something that gives your brain new information instead of another round of analysis.

For a lot of high achievers, that’s the exact opposite of what feels productive in the moment.

Clarity doesn’t always come from thinking your way out. Sometimes it shows up after you’ve moved your way out first.

→ Save this for the next time you’re stuck and your first instinct is to think harder.

The leader everyone relies on is often the one nobody checks on.

It’s not because people don’t care. It’s that they’re the one who always seems okay. The one who handles things. Figures everything out. Keeps going. Stays composed when everyone else is overwhelmed.

What I’ve noticed working with high performers is that eventually functioning under constant pressure stops feeling intense and starts feeling normal.

That’s where things get tricky. It doesn’t always feel like burnout. Sometimes it feels like responsibility, leadership, being the person everyone depends on.

Until one day you realize you haven’t felt fully present, rested, or at ease in a very long time.

That realization is at the heart of my latest @entrepreneur feature.

I share why these patterns become so easy to normalize, why they often get mistaken for leadership, and what it takes to start interrupting them before they quietly become your default way of living.

Many leaders become so used to carrying pressure that they stop noticing how much they’re holding.

At some point, being the steady one… the capable one… the one everyone depends on… stops feeling temporary and starts becoming part of your identity.

Pushing through becomes automatic.
Staying composed becomes second nature.
And over time, the nervous system adapts to functioning under constant pressure, even when the cost is high.

Tonight’s conversation with Nathan R. Mitchell on Lead Empowered TV goes deep into the patterns high performers rarely talk about publicly:
• burnout culture
• nervous system regulation
• identity patterns
• emotional resilience
• leadership pressure
• and what it actually means to lead from the inside out

If you’ve been carrying pressure, decision fatigue, overwhelm, or responsibility for too long, I think this conversation will hit home in a very real way. It’s a powerful conversation to close out the month with and a grounding way to reset before stepping into a new one.

Loved speaking with Nathan about leadership, stress, performance, and the deeper story behind @sofree_app .

We’re moving into a future that expects people to adapt to technology faster than many communities have even had access to it.

That’s part of what made this conversation with @apldeap and @uynghiem about @earthsama2050 feel so important.

A big part of the discussion was around agriculture, accessibility, and the challenge of helping farming communities adapt to rapidly changing technology while starting from completely different levels of infrastructure, connectivity, education, and support.

But what stayed with me most was how personal the mission behind it felt. APL spoke about wanting to use both technology and his platform to help create more opportunity, sustainability, education, and long-term support for farming communities like the ones he personally came from.

I think that’s an important part of the AI conversation people sometimes miss…

The challenge isn’t just creating more advanced technology. It’s making sure real people can actually adapt alongside it in ways that improve their lives instead of leaving them further behind, especially in industries built on manual labor, generational knowledge, family legacy, and communities with limited resources or connectivity.

The leaders who navigate this next era best won’t be the ones resisting technology or blindly depending on it. They’ll be the ones willing to work with it in ways that still protect human connection, identity, purpose, and community.

🎥 Watch this conversation all the way through. The deeper reason behind what they’re building hits differently once you understand where it actually came from.

Definitely worth checking out Earth Sama’s mission.
