Your baby’s flat spot might be connected to their NECK! 👶🏼

As a pediatric physical therapist, when I evaluate a baby with plagiocephaly, I’m not just looking at their head shape.

I’m also assessing:
✔️ Cervical range of motion
✔️ Head-turning preferences
✔️ Persistent head tilt
✔️ Strength and movement symmetry
✔️ Positioning throughout the day

Why? Because babies with torticollis or a strong positional preference may repeatedly put pressure on the same area of their head, contributing to flattening.

If we only address the flat spot without addressing the underlying neck mobility or positioning concerns, we’re potentially missing a huge piece of the puzzle!

And while we’re working on those things, monitoring head shape over time is important.

That’s where SoftSpot can be another helpful tool! 🤍

SoftSpot uses guided photos and AI to provide objective head-shape measurements, helping families establish a baseline and monitor changes over time.

✨ Early detection and early intervention matter!

SoftSpot does not replace an evaluation or treatment from your pediatrician, pediatric PT, or another qualified healthcare provider.

One of the earliest decisions parents / pediatricians make is whether head shape abnormalities are "enough" to address

Spoiler Alert - sending them in for an evaluation and remote monitoring of head shape will ALWAYS be a better choice than "let's see what happens by next visit. just turn their head when they sleep"

SoftSpot helps make head shape measurements and tracking easy for everyone - caregivers, clinicians, and babe.

*head measurements alone are NOT enough for positive outcomes - but it can help guide need for treatment & parents gain information and strategies for home play / positions

Tummy time doesn’t have to mean putting your baby flat on the floor! 👶🏼🤍

As a pediatric PT, here are 3 tummy-time positions I love recommending to parents:

1. Chest-to-chest – Great for babies who want to be close to you!
2. Across your lap – Provides a little extra support while baby works on head control.
3. Supported tummy time – A rolled towel under the chest can make tummy time more manageable!

All three count as tummy time! 🙌🏼 Just remember to keep baby awake and supervised.

Tummy time helps build strength, supports motor development, and reduces time spent putting pressure on the back of baby’s head.

And if you’re concerned about your baby’s head shape, early detection and monitoring matter! SoftSpot uses guided photos and AI to provide objective head-shape measurements so you can track changes over time.

It’s another tool in your toolbox, not a replacement for your pediatrician or pediatric PT. 🤍

👶🏼New parents: Let’s talk about baby head shape!
Comment HEAD SHAPE and I’ll send you the link to purchase!

As a pediatric therapist working with babies and young children in early intervention, I know how important early identification can be.

@softspot.ai helps parents track their baby’s head shape using photos and an app-generated report that can be shared with their pediatrician or healthcare team. 💛

✨ Why I like it:
• Helps track changes in head shape over time
• Gives parents information to discuss with their pediatrician
• Can help clinicians identify when further evaluation may be appropriate

Remember, it doesn’t replace a professional evaluation, but it can help start important conversations early!

Save this for a new parent who might find it helpful. 🤍

Pediatric PTs, OTs & other providers 👋🏼 Are you objectively tracking head shape?

When working with babies with torticollis, positional preferences, or plagiocephaly, we’re looking at so much more than just the flat spot.. cervical ROM, positioning, strength, motor development, symmetry, and what may be contributing to the head-shape change.

SoftSpot uses guided photos + AI to provide objective head-shape measurements, including CI and CVAI, allowing us to establish a baseline and monitor changes over time. 👶🏼📏

I especially love having another tool for early detection and for helping families actually see how their baby’s head shape is changing over time.

SoftSpot does not replace clinical assessment or clinical judgment.. it’s another objective tool we can add to our toolbox. 🤍

Head shape can change as your baby grows, and it can be hard to see those changes when you see your baby every day.

SoftSpot helps us put numbers to those changes. It provides objective measurements of your baby’s head shape so we can track changes together over time.

It’s not about waiting and seeing, it’s about noticing changes early, understanding what they mean, and taking action when needed. If you've noticed flattening or just want peace of mind, early intervention is key.

My baby has a flat spot… what can I actually do at home? 👶🏼

As a pediatric PT, these are some of the first things I recommend parents focus on: repositioning during awake time, lots of tummy time, switching up feeding and carrying positions, and reducing unnecessary pressure on the back of baby’s head while awake. 🤍

And one piece that’s easy to forget? Actually monitoring whether it’s improving.

SoftSpot uses guided photos + AI to provide objective head-shape measurements, giving you a baseline and a way to track changes over time instead of relying only on what you see.

SoftSpot does not replace an evaluation from your pediatrician, pediatric PT, or another healthcare provider—especially if you notice a strong head-turning preference, limited neck motion, worsening asymmetry, or simply have concerns about your baby.
