Last Saturday I left Bend Oregon with no plan. I headed to Coure De Lane Idaho for the night. Sunday to Sandpoint and Thompson Falls ending up in Missoula. Monday heading to Bozeman, Red Lodge over The Beartooth Pass into Cody Wyoming. Today Cody to Landers,Rock Springs,The Flaming Gorge finishing in Price Utah. In the morning I will head to Torrey then Escalante to travel the Devils Backbone and then on to Boulder to head down the Burr Trail for 68 miles of dirt and rock towards Big Water and Lake Powell. Today from Landers Wyoming over South Pass towards Rock Springs I was hit with the strongest crosswinds I have ever been in except maybe The Andes Mountains in South America. They would push my truck over 1/2 a lane for almost 90 mins non stop. It feels good to just breathe with no plans except to see friends in Prescott in the next few days. I have always had a wondering soul and have always wanting to see over the next horizon to travel just one more day to find a place of peace with in my soul. Ps it was 35 degrees on the Beartooth Pass with 50 mph winds so I could not get myself to smile.

Scenes from the Laguna Art Museum (@lagunaartmuseum) members opening celebration for the exhibition “Eternal Construction: Photographic Perspectives on Southern California’s Built Environment”

Curated by Tyler Stallings (@tylerstallings02)

From Laguna Art Museum:
Southern California’s built environment is in a constant state of flux—a landscape defined by expansion, erasure, reinvention and decay. This exhibition brings together artists from Laguna Art Museum’s permanent collection who have engaged deeply with themes of urbanization, infrastructure, environmental transformation and conceptual interpretations of space. Rather than presenting a wide survey, this exhibition offers an in-depth exploration of artists with multiple works in the collection, allowing for a richer, more layered engagement with their investigations of land-use and development.

The selected artists form a complex dialogue about the shifting nature of the built environment, with some taking a documentary approach, while others deconstruct, abstract or intervene in the spaces they depict. Through stark realism, conceptual play and aesthetic manipulation, these artists reveal the ever-evolving story of Southern California’s relationship with land.

The exhibition features the work of Lewis Baltz, Jeff Brouws, Laurie Brown, Luke Erickson, Jacques Garnier, Marcia Hafif, John Humble, Barbara Kasten, Jeremy Kidd, Tom Lamb, The Legacy Group, Deborah Oropallo, Julius Shulman and Robert von Sternberg.

Scenes from the Laguna Art Museum (@lagunaartmuseum) members opening celebration for the exhibition “Solitude and Silence: Conrad Buff, Painter of the American Southwest”, the first major museum exhibition to explore Conrad Buff’s career and life.

Curated by Deborah Solon

From Laguna Art Museum:
Buff was considered one of the most important artists working in Southern California, forging a unique artistic vision during a transformative and often turbulent time in American art. Buff was a modernist—and was viewed as such— although his work never crossed over to more “radical” (Surrealist, non-objective) aspects of modernism, and he remained a painter of landscapes.

“Most of us are lucky to see Paris once in a lifetime. Make the most of it by doing as little as possible. Walk a little, get lost a bit, eat, catch a breakfast buzz, have a nap, try and have sex if you can, just not with a mime. Eat again. Lounge around drinking coffee. Maybe read a book. Drink some wine, walk around a bit more, eat, repeat.” Anthony Bourdain

This image was my first click upon arriving in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It’s a beautiful destination full of history and nature. Be sure to explore the countryside outside of the city. You can find prints of “Laundry Day” in many sizes, as well as matting and framing options for any decor at sweitz.com.
This image is also one of 187 images in my new book, “Carried by a Kaleidoscope of Butterflies.” Signed copies can be obtained from me at sweitz@sweitz.com
