~ HMC Civil Rights Law Firm ~

Heather came to us with the desire to create a plant design considered unconventional for a law firm. While most traditional firms would lean into dark tones, leather, and masculine features, Heather envisioned a mid-century modern, jewel-toned haven with local art adorning the walls and nature intertwined throughout.

Heather’s firm is entirely woman-owned and operated. At the time, so was Plant Savvy. As a woman founder myself, I was incredibly moved by Heather, her team, and the amazing work they are doing for Middle Tennessee.

Their firm handles some incredibly tough cases, and we wanted to help create a space where their team could find a sense of ease and respite from the weight of their work. A space that not only reflected the personalities and values of HMC, but gave back to the people who spend their days giving so much to others.

Happy Planting,
Sav

In the lobby, a bold and structural planter transforms the once underutilized negative space into an indoor oasis.

The inclusion of a Soltech Lighting Solutions grow light track provides the planter’s various inhabitants with ample light in a spot otherwise low in natural lighting.

A statement architectural floor plant in the main seating area completes the space, highlighting the jewel tones of the art and furniture.

Each staff office received a floor plant tailored to the room, including this Euphorbia tirucalli in a front office.

Hoya Clemensiorum 😮‍💨 I’ve become a cult follower and who can blame me?! It’s got huge leaves, veins, deep shades of green with some splash, the edges are ruffled, and it has a really cool texture. I’m always staring this one down in my cabinet. I love the anticipation of new leaves and the excitement of watching them unfurl and expand in size as they mature.

CURRENT CARE:

I have this Hoya in a self watering pot in the B!tches Love Hoyas soil by @ohhappyplants.

It has grown successfully outside of my cabinet but currently resides in my ikea Rudsta. The cabinet is not weather stripped so it fluctuates between 50-70% humidity depending on the time of year.

It is growing under a @soltech Grove light and I fertilize every watering.

My fertilizer combination is an all purpose fertilizer, kelp/seaweed, and KLN rooting hormone/fertilizer.

Corner glow up! A wild monstera was tamed by redirecting traffic vertically and giving it a bigger pot. The Dracaena reflexa was also given an upgraded pot and support. The big addition is a stunner of a Ficus Audrey! We are going to let the tree acclimate and give it a nice big pot next spring|summer! Due to low light from a north facing window, @soltech is going to work its magic and a @cowbellplantco because they’re fantastic and for peace of mind for the client :)

You’ll never find me styling a space without introducing a citrus tree into the mix. And when it comes to calamansi, I’m a real sucker. 💚🍊🌿

Let’s be real for a sec—Platycerium are quickly gaining popularity in the US… but very few people seem to know exactly how to take care of them indoors. Even the shops selling them 🫣🤔

And when I brought my first Platycerium home four years ago, I honestly had no clue either. Even after scouring the internet for answers 🧍‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

✨Why✨ is this a trend?

In North America, they’re often sold:

🫎 With minimal care instructions (often just “put it in your shower when it’s dry!” 🚿) when in reality, they need very bright indirect light, airflow, specific substrate, regular maintenance, and sometimes the shower isn’t enough. At worst, the care instructions can be blatantly incorrect!

🫎 Pre-mounted (which is amazing for saving you time and effort in the short term… but not so amazing when you realize that consistent remounting is part of owning these plants 🙂‍↕️ It’s important to learn how! 💕)

🫎 With no real game plan for the long-term health of a spectacular plant that can live as long as we do 👵🏼👴🏻🥬

Many people successfully grow Platycerium as garden plants in tropical states like Florida 👩🏻‍🌾🌴 but there’s a major gap when it comes to accessible information on growing them indoors 🏡

…and the two are VASTLY different.

My goal is to help bridge that gap—starting with something that becomes really important as your Platycerium grows: understanding pups and when (and how) to separate them 🐶✂️

In Part 2, we’re finally separating this pup from its mother… and I’m taking you along for the ride 🏎️💨😎

You’re definitely not gonna want to miss it 🫶

This weekend was largely spent stuck inside due to the Nor’easter that decided to make its way through Philly 😅

So, my weekend was mostly spent catching up on things we’ve been meaning to do around the house. One of these shelves was a little unsteady so we secured it and I used it as a great excuse to rearrange the plants and grow lights in a way that works just a little bit better for me.

So, were you stuck inside like me this weekend or were you out exploring? Let me know!

What if your favorite lamp could grow plants? 🌿💡

That’s exactly why we love the Soltech Vita. It turns a lamp we already love into a grow light, while keeping the warm, cozy atmosphere we want in our home.
