How do we identify emerging opportunities, respond to changing behaviours, and prepare for what’s next? Trend research is often part of that conversation, but it’s important to understand that it’s not about simply predicting the future. Instead, it helps us uncover the drivers of change, challenge assumptions, and explore multiple possible futures to support stronger decision-making. In collaboration with Els Dragt, author of How to Research Trends, we explore this in our latest article: “Trend Research Is Not Future Prediction.” A great read for anyone curious about what’s changing, what’s next, and how to make smarter choices along the way. 💡 Share your thoughts: What role do you think trend research should play in shaping organisational strategy? #TrendResearch #StrategicForesight #Innovation #FutureThinking #Strategy DesignResearch

“The present is no more than material for the future.” - H. G. Wells The future doesn’t appear out of nowhere, it starts with small things happening right now. Tiny habits, new behaviors, little shifts… they all add up. What’s something you’ve noticed lately that feels small, but could become big? Could be in design, tech, culture, work, or everyday life. Curious to hear what you’re seeing. #FutureThinking #Trends #SignalsOfChange #Innovation #WhatsNext

Time flies when you are having fun right? Together with fellow Future Friends, I was honored to present in a 333 format (3 signals, 3 slides, 3 minutes); My trends were Radical (Financial Female) Freedom, Moral Push and K-Shaped Generation. I will not go into all trends now, but I received some triggering questions about the K-Shaped Generation from fellow educators, tech companies and these young professionals themselves. What is the K-Shaped Generation? They are the generation of students and young professionals that are currently starting their careers in industries such as Technology and IT/ software services. Why? Since this is what they love to do (and they are proficient), and clearly they are jumping into opportunities- faster than other generations. It all starts with the current ecomic situation: instead of the normal V shaped recovery we are currently experiencing a K-shaped recovery. This means that certain industry are exponentially growing whereas others are lagging behind. Those industries growing are in technology and IT/ software services. The K shaped recovery has structural effect on the economy- creating more career opportunities in technology and IT/ software service. This means that young people will have more opportunities as an intern and first jobs in these industries. •As an example, 28-year-old Dutch-Friesian Petra Stoker, is one of the country’s most successful e-sports players, winning competitions, and Red Bull brand backing. In addition, the biggest e-sports Arena and Academy H20 recently opened. So, what does it mean for us as pre-K-shaped entrepreneurs and educators?  We need to wake up and keep up! Start by supporting the K- Shaped Generations skills, offer growth and for those who are not gaming… lets learn (at H20 Academy in Purmerend) Thanks Stefanie Schillmöller and Els Dragt for the invite, and Candela Martinez Gabe Jaffe Franziska Füsting Gustavo Nogueira de Menezes for your Trend inspirations. Jeroen Timmer for the picture, Bianca Roo-Ranzijn for introducing me to this generation and Dirk Tuip for your presentation at the Kennis Parade 2024 and reminding me to keep up with my gaming skills!
