On May 25th, 2024 from 4-7 PM, Nonchalant is proud to present THRILL, a solo exhibition by @soniaruscoe at its new location at 393 Main Street Catskill, a collaborative creative space with @wavefarmradio ’s @wgxc_90.7fm .
🌀🌀🌀
THRILL is a collection of paintings that encapsulate the emotional adventure of human experience. Bright, whimsical, and uncanny, the individual brush strokes in THRILL collectively bring forth a realm that both cherishes and questions the unknown. These works are sentiments to the artist’s soul nodding towards the human existential journey opposed to the physical boundaries of existence.
🌀🌀🌀
Artist Statement:

This set of paintings explores the thrill of loneliness, perhaps beside others but at home in your own interiority. Abstractions consider the periphery or subconscious of experience, the glimmer of sunlight on eyelids, the space where the outer world meets our brain waves. And the narrative scenes consider how this happens amongst company. All of these works are in step with an idea that memory and painting are locked in dance with– the world entering through the cracks of our consciousness. If we can witness this in our experience, I think it can be a nonchalant thrill.

A belated post to Hot Compost, an exhibition that marked the end of my residency with @ca_sa_lu in Mexico City this past January. Shared space and time with such lovely people. Thank you @lupe.quesada and @chellesaenzburrola for organizing and to @marielvelag for curating.

Wow we can’t believe it’s nearly been a year since we closed for renovations last January! It’s been a wild ride, but we sure are happy with our bigger more functional space. Thank you to all those who have graced us with your presence this year, and for those who haven’t come yet check out these amazing photos 📸 by our friends @heidisbridge ! Also maybe this is a good time to announce that we are closed Xmas eve and day- but open afterwards all the way through NYE (email us to make your rez!) AND THEN we will be closed for the first 2 weeks in Jan to give our staff some much needed vacation time. Don’t worry we will remind you of this again later... 🌴🌴Anyways thank you we love you! 💓💓💓
