Had a rather lovely day at Target Book Club on Saturday! Very honoured to be asked by @gossjam to put together a display for the new Key to Time collection, by James, @robertshearman and David Fisher, edited by Steve Cole. A delight to see James, Rob and Steve posing with the Key! Huge thanks to @sonicboltprops and @jimmymannfx, who did the heavy lifting. Dan modelled the Key, Jimmy printed the masters, moulded and cast the segments, and I oversaw things and helped with research. Jimmy even took it to the Rollright Stones for promo shots! Dan sorted the tracer’s handle and electronics while I made the acrylic emitter rod. Thanks to @stevenrickstailoring for his gorgeous Season 16 ensemble, and @thewhoarchive for kindly letting me bring Chris Achilleos’ original 1973 artwork for The Daleks! The speakers were fantastic, including @stephenwyatt3, Nigel Robinson, Dr. Una McCormack and many others. @drmatthewsweet was brilliantly funny and informative as always, and Rob’s Power of Kroll is sublime. He has such a knack for finding fresh angles on existing monsters, and somehow he’s managed it with Kroll! Steve’s Vampire Mutation reading was an utter joy, and his Tom Baker impression is actually rather good! His Target eBay higher-or-lower game was great fun too. Fascinating to hear about his adaptation and @0tralala’s The Six Doctors, bringing lost Terrance Dicks material to life. Very excited for both! Julian Richards’ tribute to his dad, Justin, “Father in the Mirror”, was particularly moving. Having loved The Resurrection Casket for years, I felt privileged to be there and hear about Justin’s other works from his son’s perspective. Lovely to chat to Steve, Simon and @anghelides about childhood favourites like The Feast of the Drowned, The Sting of the Zygons, The Pirate Loop and Pest Control. Of course, the Key was far too dangerous to keep in one piece, so I’ve entrusted Rob with the Kroll segment and James with the Pirate Planet one as mementos, and to stop it falling into the wrong hands… although I wouldn’t be surprised to see a segment on eBay from Turkishcavelover69. Thank you to James and everyone involved for such a great day out, it was a joy!

This is an early era LSP sonic pen! This was heavily modified with the help of @kasimbhattiprops and @sonicboltprops who helped re-engineer the inside to add sound (it was light only before) and make it actually work as a pen. As these in their early state did not have a pen insert. You’ll notice a hole drilled into the dome of the acrylic piece and that is because the LED has been switched to a UV light! Hole in the dome was necessary to let the UV take effect. The reason for this is personal, but the modified dream is done and ready! It’s absolutely beautiful, made from machined delrin and aluminum, its quite a stunner! ~tags~ #doctorwho #littleshopprops #sonicpen #sonicscrewdriverreplica #10thdoctor

A gorgeous new addition to my collection of LSP Tennant replicas! This is the Series 4 Grey Robatto prop, and since it arrived yesterday it has immediately become my favourite props in the lineup. • The beautiful weathering from @multiverseprops really makes this replica special, and as always the attention to detail on every other aspect of this prop makes it feel like the real deal. • #doctorwho #drwho #davidtennant #sonicscrewdriver #prop

With the “20 years on: The Tenth Doctor” screening at the BFI coming up soon, it felt like the perfect excuse to make one of these, The dimension jump from Doomsday! • This one was a very straightforward prop to make, a simple 3D print followed by some sanding and painting. This is quite a satisfying little prop, and definitely recognisable! • 3D model provided by @littleshopprops • #doctorwho #drwho #tenthdoctor #10thdoctor #davidtennant

The secret is finally out! 🔊🪛 Here is the Fugitive Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver, designed by myself and @sonicboltprops for @bbcdoctorwho Circuit Breaker! It was brought to life through a combination of CNC machining and good old-fashioned hand turning from me, electronics by Daniel Howard, and resin and leather work by Karl Derrick. In total we produced four hero props for the production, plus a fifth that was gifted to @msjomartin Ever since seeing the box of four Eleventh Doctor Sonic Screwdrivers made for Series 5, I’d hoped I’d get to do the same one day, so this really was a pinch-me moment. Eagle-eyed readers of Doctor Who Magazine may also have spotted the screwdriver hiding in plain sight as an accidental Easter egg among the concept sketches in the costume design interview article! 😏 And speaking of DWM, they’ll be revealing much more about the design very soon, so I’ll leave the rest of the story to them before I accidentally give too much away…

At every event where someone's trundled out a K9, you cannot help but treat that remote control silver box like he's real, regardless of the man 10 feet away with an enormous remote trying to keep the illusion going.
