To get chosen, David Fritzson didn’t play it safe—he went straight for shock, embarrassment, and the uncomfortable clarity that follows when there’s nowhere left to hide.

In this excerpt from the Richmond Film Network podcast, screenwriter David Fritzson reflects with co-writer Anson Kessinger on the risky pitch that launched "MONDAY": a deliberate attempt to grab attention by confronting characters—and audiences—with consequences in their most exposed moments. Betting on shock as a storytelling tool, Fritzson framed the script around “clarity,” the instant when panic strips away pretense and reveals who people really are.

When the gamble paid off and director Lisa Giles selected the pitch, Fritzson immediately turned to collaboration, bringing in fellow writers Anson Kessinger and Caitlin Whitaker to help carry the weight of the idea. What followed was an intense, overnight writing session that stretched until 4 a.m.—a testament to trust, creative chemistry, and the shared belief that bold ideas are best realized together.
