For most of my childhood, I was bullied for being too skinny and too tall—physically and emotionally drained from the pressure to look and perform a certain way. As an athlete, I dreamed of having the muscle and power to compete at the highest level. Now in my 40s, I love and appreciate my body more than ever before.

I’ve learned to honor the journey, especially the girl I once was—the lanky, insecure Laurie who didn’t yet realize her strength. Here’s to anyone who’s ever struggled with their weight, whether gaining or losing.

The emotional, physical, and mental toll is real, and I hope people begin to understand the struggles on both sides of the scale.

Remember, every person has a lived experience. You have no idea what someone is going through, and your words can leave a lasting impact. But most of all—don’t judge yourself.

I hope you work on changing the way you see yourself. Instead of focusing on flaws or comparing yourself to unrealistic standards, start seeing yourself through a lens of appreciation, value, respect, love, compassion, and adoration. Your body is more than just how it looks—it’s the vessel that carries you through life.

If you’re in your 40s and learning to love your body, here are a few things that helped me:
1. Practice self-compassion. Appreciate your body for how it’s carried you through life.
2. Focus on strength, not size. Embrace your body for what it can do.
3. Nourish yourself. Eat to fuel and care for your body, not punish it.
4. Move with intention. Find exercise you love and celebrate your progress.
5. Prioritize rest. Give your body the recovery it needs to stay strong and healthy.

Here’s to self-love at every stage of life. 💪❤️
Yes, I take a Boxing/StrengthX class at my yoga studio @cpytribe.pc with Coach Mark—an absolute force in the game. His expertise, precision, and ability to push you past your limits are next level. Grateful to learn from one of the best! @sonofswanee
