This was the moment the tribute surfboard was revealed at Hank’s paddle out on September 26.

Seeing Ruben’s work in person, surrounded by Hank’s family, friends, and people whose lives he touched, was something special. It wasn’t just a surfboard. It held so much love, so many memories, and a piece of Hank’s story.

The tribute surfboard is now up for auction, with bidding open through October 6 at 6:00 PM HST.

Bid here:

Please share this with anyone who knew Hank or whose life was touched by his work. 🤍

Hank’s ʻohana, including his son Fender, came out to Ruben’s studio in ʻEwa Beach today to see the finished surfboard for the first time.

Over the past few weeks, Ruben has been carving the plumeria and monstera into the deck by hand, so getting to finally share the finished piece with the people it was made for was a special moment.

Afterward, everyone sat down with Ruben and Sonya and talked story for a while. Some of the conversation was about tomorrow’s paddle out and how everything will come together, but a lot of it was simply about Hank.

The paddle out is tomorrow, Saturday, September 26, at ʻEhukai Beach Park / Pipeline. We’ll start gathering at 12 p.m., with the ceremony beginning at 1 p.m.

If you knew Hank, surfed with him, worked with him, or ever found yourself on the other side of his camera, we’d love to have you there. If you don’t surf, come join us from the sand. Bring a flower if you can.

The tribute board is also up for auction now at hankfotomemorial.betterworld.org, or you can scan the QR code on the last slide. Bidding closes Wednesday, October 6 at 6 p.m. HST, and 100% of the proceeds will go to Fender.

See you tomorrow.

“End of the Road” 🌊

Some pieces you carve with your hands. This one I carved with my heart.

Today I’m sharing the name of the tribute board I made for Hank Foto. Every flower, every leaf, every curl of that wave was carved thinking of Hank and his ʻohana. The name says what words can’t.

Tomorrow, Sept 26, we paddle out for Hank at ʻEhukai Beach Park / Pipeline. Gather at 12 PM, ceremony at 1 PM.

The sculpture is up for auction, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to Fender.

🗓 Online bidding closes Wednesday, Sept 30 at 6 PM HST
