Our new album, The Hendon Project, is out today! It tells the story of a Sri Lankan Tamil community migrating to North London in the 1970s.

The second picture above is my Great Aunt, Pumma. She was a Carnatic singer, and around 2 years ago we started going through her old tapes, on which she’d recorded hours of material. Her voice weaves in and out of our new album, creating a dialogue between myself and her throughout the tracks.

This project has been 1.5 years in the making, and we’re so unbelievably excited to share it with you guys today. It took a small army to make it, and we’ve gotta give massive thanks to @alifeinspace and @jayjacobsyeahyeah for the mixing and mastering, and @sophia_make_ing for her beautiful artwork. It features incredible work written by @dr.sinthu, an emotional sample from @uma.kumaran.mp, and inspiration from @v_v_ganeshananthan. We were also graced by the Carnatic flair of two geniuses - @the_tablaist and @the_flute_guy, who are genuinely extraordinary musicians to work with.

Alongside all of that, I also want to shout out the small but mighty Tamil community of Hendon, without whom this album would’ve never been written, and these stories wouldn’t have been shared.

The Hendon Project is out on all streaming platforms today. We’ve put our whole heart and soul into it, and we had a phenomenal time making it. Share widely if you can, and enjoy listening. 🎶

Uma, the latest single from our upcoming album The Hendon Project, is out today! It sheds light on starting afresh in a new, unfamiliar place, and working beyond your own limits to provide for your family. This was one of the first songs we wrote for this project, and it still fills us with excitement every time we listen through. A lot of hard work has gone into making the track - thank you to @alifeinspace for the mixing and mastering and to @sophia_make_ing for her wonderful cover art! And of course, we want to thank @uma.kumaran.mp - the first Tamil MP in the UK, for letting us use her powerful words from her maiden speech in parliament. Share widely if you can, and enjoy listening 🙏🏾

The summer that keeps giving ☀️

I had the pleasure of mixing + mastering this beautiful new track from @the52s.band recently. It’s called Pumma 2.0 and tells the story of Sri Lankan Tamil migration to North London in the 1970s.

Go check it out, it’s a really special one!

+ shouts to @sophia_make_ing on the artwork 🎨

Our new song, Pumma 2.0 is out on all streaming platforms today!! It’s the first song from our new album telling the story of Sri Lankan Tamil migration from Sri Lanka to North London in the 1970s. Incorporating vocals from Vex’s great aunt, it’s a track that means a lot to us. Alongside all the brilliant musicians that made this song what it is, we were also very lucky to have @sophia_make_ing design our album cover and @mikardo_music as our producer. Share widely if you can, and enjoy!! #tamilmusic #indianfusion

Cianalas - Gaelic, for longing for one's home

@_baile_baile_ are very excited to present Cianalas, our next Civic House Party!

Being of mixed heritage, having immigrant parents, or being an immigrant yourself can bring a unique understanding and perspective to art and music. A longing for one's home can be joyful, and Cianalas aims to bring closeness with the distance of longing.
This event showcases the talent of artists and DJs who are “something” and Scottish, or who have lived in Scotland while contributing to the scene even though their heritage isn’t necessarily fully Scottish through an exhibition and performances, a Gaelic lesson and a stellar lineup of DJs.
