BMW M3 | E92 | S65 V8

Mitch’s M3 came in for a series of mechanical repairs, maintenance, and refinements to keep it performing as intended.

A power steering rack leak was confirmed during inspection. The rack was removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled with a successful same-day turnaround. Affected areas were thoroughly cleaned, and the hydraulic system was refreshed with CHF 11S fluid.

Additional work included removing the aftermarket CAE shifter and restoring the factory OEM shifter assembly, swapping the Akrapovič exhaust system for Eisenmann, and completing an engine oil service using LIQUI MOLY.

To finish things off, @southwave.as Auto Service performed a race-spec suspension setup using a motorsports-grade hubstand alignment system, followed by final QC and road testing.

From mechanical repairs to the finishing details, it’s all part of the process.

The consistency @pronto.zn8 has had since first crossing paths with him at Buttonwillow last year is a testament to how important ongoing chassis and suspension development can be when competing at the top levels of Time Attack.

With the GR chassis still being fairly fresh compared to the rest of the competition, it’s impressive to see Jared go toe to toe with the more developed previous generation 86’s who’ve had much more time to hone in their setups. Development help from @southwave.as has made the car consistently competitive between GridLife, SCCA, and GR86 Cup, where rule changes across the 3 call for differing amounts of setup changes.

A 1:39.646 places him 3rd on podium for @gridlifeofficial ClubTR with lots of momentum heading into GTA Finals at Buttonwillow in November.

Not much has changed on the M3, but if you know me I always find a way to get @battlecraftparts parts on all my cars 😬. The Hyper Teardrop + Garagetastic shift knob adaptor looks great and works for now, but this combo is slightly too tall and wobbly for my taste. I’ll have to do more research and see what upgrades I can do to the stock shifter or possibly upgrade the shifter… And of course I had to run the Hyper 00R titanium lug nuts since the M3 has a stud conversion! Used my phone again to take these pictures and while it’s super convenient and the picture quality is great, it still doesn’t feel “right”. The feeling of holding a heavy metal body DSLR is such an engaging experience. This is part of the reason why I haven’t made the jump to a mirrorless SLR (plus being broke 🙂‍↕️)

Can’t believe next month marks 2 years since the BattleCraft Voltex Street Version II GR86 demo car was built and made its debut.

Every time I get the chance to see this car, I’m reminded of just how brutally hot that summer was, @studytuned Kristian and I sweating buckets in the shop, eating lunch with the hugest salt stains on our shirts and spending countless hours assembling every part of this build together.

It really was a great time… and seeing the car still brings back those memories.
