Do you know what hard water is doing to your clients’ hair? This bleached blonde strand was loaded with mineral buildup, and under the microscope you can see exactly what calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper deposits look like sitting on the hair shaft. Huge thank you to Chad of @spacecathairco for the microscope footage.

Hard water minerals can react with peroxide and persulfates in lightener, causing hot spots, uneven lift, and breakage. They can also leave color muddy and make hair feel stiff and unmanageable. A chelating treatment removes minerals and metals, while a clarifying shampoo removes product buildup. They are not the same thing.

This sample was treated with the Olaplex Broad Spectrum Chelating Treatment. After chelating, follow with a bond treatment and an acidic conditioner to bring the pH down and smooth the cuticle. If your clients have well water or hard city water, chelate before color, lightening, and perms.

✨Do you guys know @spacecathairco Chadd Boulter? If not you need to. He’s a Trichology Informed Colorist that’s been doing a lot of really cool scientific breakdowns of brands and things related to hair.

He reached out to us that he’s been getting a lot of requests to do a video about QOAT! To see how it works in the hair and also if it works. We were already obsessed with his videos, so we over nighted him a bottle and let him get to work 🤓 🧬

He took hair and first lightened it, then colored it with one of the hardest colors to avoid fading: Pastel Pink.

Next he split the hair into two batches. One he treated with @qoathair and the other batch he did not. Then he shape shampooed both batches of hair 20 times. Same temperature, same shampoo and agitation time.

Then he took each of the samples and filmed micro videos to compare the color fade with and without QOAT.

He also took 5 to 6 hairs of each batch and made cross sections one with QOAT and one without QOAT and compared each under the microscope, giving us a view into the inside of the hair. You can really see 👀 just how much pigment was left and just how effective QOAT was at retaining this VERY fast fading color!

We are pretty mind blown 🤯 to see the microscopic look at our new baby QOAT. What do you guys think? As always sound off in the comments!

The future of color is QOAT. Qoat restores hairs hydrophobic function by mimicking the hydrophobic lipid layer or F Layer of the hair. In Chads video, you really see this function in action. Make sure you follow Chadd and check out his stuff!

I’m still riding a high from this weekend.

A whole room of professionals who didn’t have to be there. Already confident at what they do. Already busy. Already making a difference.

They showed up anyway to go deeper into something that honestly takes a lifetime to master.

You could feel it the second you walked in. That quiet kind of serious. Heads down, notes filling up, somebody asking real & thought provoking questions. The questions that inspire you to dig harder.

People who came to actually do the work.

There’s something about standing in a room like that. Everyone reaching for the same thing, nobody looking for the easy version of it. This world is full of shortcuts, this room was full of the stillness real results take.

I am full of gratitude to find myself in a room like that, determined to practice, and humbled by it all.

Day 3 ✨🔬

Today we took the microscope apart literally and figuratively.

From understanding the science behind polarized light microscopy to mastering the instrument itself, participants gained a deeper appreciation for how hair fibers tell the story of health, nutrition, digestion, environmental exposure, and scalp function.

Today wasn’t just about earning a certificate it was about earning your wings. 🪽
