POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🎙️Top Narrators🎙️

There were so many outstanding narrator performances this month. Here are the details:

REESE WITHERSPOON(GONE BEFORE GOODBYE) -Witherspoon uses her impeccable acting skills and personal connection to the character (being co-author), making the characters vividly come to life and feel so real, vulnerable, and emotionally resonant.

ABIGAIL RENO (DATING AFTER THE END OF THE WORLD ) -
Reno’s engaging narration greatly elevates this story to a new level and makes it feel truly cinematic and addictively engaging! The audiobook is a must-listen for fans of unconventional romcoms, wild post-apocalyptic stories, & single-narrator performances that are incredibly entertaining.

ANDREA EMMES & MARNI PENNING (ETERNAL BEAUTY)- , The combination of Andrea Emmes’s emotionally nuanced portrayals and Marni Penning’s theatrical, engrossing delivery elevates this story and makes the audiobook a true five-star-pluS listen!

STEPHANIE CANNON & ANGIS KING (EVERY BEND IN THE RIVER) - Both narrators are perfect choices for this sweeping historical fiction tale, & they greatly elevate the emotional resonance of the novel—and listeners will experience every moment of Rosanna’s profound transformation and Callum’s harrowing journey.

Other top performances came from:
⭐️AMANDA DOLAN, GRAHAM HALSTEAD & CARLOTTA BRENTAN - KEEP THIS FOR ME
⭐️MARK SANDERLIN - MS. PENNYPICKLE’S PUZZLE QUEST
⭐️THE LOCKED DOOR - LESLIE HOWARD
⭐️CHRISTIAN LEATHERMAN & RACHEL PERRY - HOUSE OF DECAY
⭐️REBECCA AVERY - THE INN BETWEEN
⭐️GILLIAN WIGGIN - MISS WIGGINS RENTS A ROOM

💬QOTD: Have you read any of these books or are they on your TBR?‼️⁉️Name a narrator you enjoyed listening to this month. ‼️⁉️What’s one book you will definitely read in November?

💫The Splendiferous Narrator Workshop 💫

On the Tuesday in NY, we headed to near Central Park for a day of in depth character work, accent work, and learning tips and tricks when it comes to audiobook narration!

We learnt from the Audiobook OGs 🙏

I was chosen to read for Johnny and be directed by him, and it was the most fantastic experience. His knowledge and wisdom were invaluable, and he gave me tips which I will take into my next books.

Thank you to everyone who organised the day and taught us! 🙌

Next up on the NY pic dump…

Last Tuesday, hot on the heels of #APAC was the #splendiferous narrator workshop with the remarkable @johnny_heller, and all his fabulous coaching crowd. Despite being the most jet lagged I’ve been in my life, I absorbed so much good stuff here, and met some brilliant folks. Special mention to my VO besties @billiefb_voiceover and @sparkthecannon for smashing it in their directed reads!

Thanks so much Johnny, and every single speaker, for the most amazing tips, technique reminders and sage advice (my fave being the pithy ‘The only thing that can mess things up is you. So don’t.’ I’ll hang on to that, thanks Johnny! 😆)

Finally home from New York and only just processing all the amazingness that this trip was 🚕❤️🍎

First up was APAC (the Audiobook Publishers Association Conference for those of you who don’t know, or for those who can’t bear acronyms 😆). Soooo much joy to actually see those producers and narrators I’ve worked with but never met, AND to meet so many more gorgeous people from the audiobook community.

What a whirl of chatting and learning and sharing and chatting! For a bunch of people who spend most of their time on their own in a tiny booth, conferences like these are just delicious. From Meet the Producers, to amazing panels and talks, to the fabulous Professional Ear, it was a blast from start to finish. And did I forgot to say it was held in the heart of Times Square - what a flipping remarkable introduction to New York…

Thanks so much to @mleecobb, APAC and all the panellists, producers and narrators who made this such a rich and fruitful experience!

✨APAC 2023✨

The one day of the year where narrators, publishers and production houses gather en masse!

Due to producing a couple of small humans, and a little issue we have come to know as Covid (!), this was my first in person APAC. And I LOVED it!

Fantastic talks, wonderful panels and such insight from the crème de la crème. Culminating in The Professional Ear where we learnt so much from top narrators and producers!

It was just incredible to connect with the publishers and producers I work with, and with those narrators I have met on SM but not IRL! I am so sorry to those I didn’t get to meet - please know that I searched for you all, but getting through the sea of 700 people wasn’t easy at times! 🙈

I am truly grateful to work in this family. Because that it what it is. And I love this family 💫

Thank you to @mleecobb for all of your hard work! What a success 🙌

I bet you thought you were done seeing @voatlanta posts.
Ha! Here comes one more!

After the conference, I hopped on a plane to NYC for a few days of holiday and only landed back in London this morning. So now here I am sat at my desk in my new @voboothbesties t-shirt, trying to process this past week.

I can't quite put into words how incredible this experience was. I had been to smaller VO conferences in the UK before and loved them all. But I was not prepared for the mind-blowing scale of VOA. Over 1000 voice actors, directors, agents, casting directors, producers and just about anyone involved or interested in the world of VO in one place. Teaching, learning, chatting, laughing, dancing, drinking and supporting each other for 4 days.

I'm not sure whether it was the jet lag, but the whole weekend felt like a dream. I was constantly waiting to wake up at any point. Learning from and getting to work with some of the top talent in this industry, watching Goofy and Donald Duck have a conversation, connecting with people who could change my career and my life. Surrounded by old and new friends who cheered each other on and got excited about each other's successes.

I have come home bursting at the seams with inspiration, motivation and determination. (Can anyone think of any more -ation words?)

I know we all sound like a broken record when we say this community is like no other. But it really is so special and I am so endlessly grateful to be a part of it.

Thanks so much to @jmcdemos, Anna Collins and the whole VOA team for creating something truly magical.

Now to go through the stacks of business cards. This is where the real work begins 💪

I am elated and exhausted! #apac2023 exceeded my expectations for fun and professional growth. Fully in the moment all week, I took very few pictures so please tag me my friends if I show up in yours. Congratulations to all #audies2023 winners and nominees!
