It’s already been a month since the Lantern choir tour to Norway and Sweden!! Here are some photos from our final concert at Bergen Cathedral. What a great experience it was for our SPD choir members! I was so thrilled to reunite with several members of the Lantern choir at my concert last week.

Full of joy and gratitude as we reach the end of our 2026 Summer Organ Festival. Our audiences got to enjoy such wonderful performances by Chad Fothergill, Sam Backman, and Tigran Buniatyan this month. All of these incredible organists brought a variety of interesting programs, styles, and repertoire. Amazing. Thank you.

It is now my second year curating this festival, and I feel so grateful to my predecessors for establishing such a strong series. Each of our concerts this year and last - no matter the time of day - drew at least 100 audience members and usually many more. An appreciation, curiosity, and even love for organ music persists here, and that is a wonderful thing. We are not an urban or central church; but a wonderful and welcoming place in the west metro where high-level music is embraced with open arms. Such great things happening at St. Philip the Deacon.

Oh, and by the way, come to my concert this Wednesday! 😀

What a meaningful evening at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church! 🎶

Last night's Festival Choir Runout Concert and Evening Prayer gave our students the chance to share their music beyond the LSM campus. We're grateful for opportunities like these that allow our students to serve through music, build new connections, and experience music ministry in new settings.

Thank you to St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church for your warm hospitality and for welcoming the LSM community. We are grateful for your partnership!

This reel features phone audio from our latest concert - from the 4th movement of an 8-movement new work “Love’s Lantern,” which was commissioned for this tour and composed by Tom Trenney.

The Lantern Choir had a great day in Oslo, starting with a guided tour of the city, a visit to the meaningful sculptures at Frogner Park, and a stop by the ski jump. This lovely morning was followed by a great meal together enjoying some Norwegian specialties as well as a dance group from the Norwegian folk museum! Our evening concert was held in the Majorstuen church, which rewarded us with a beautifully intimate acoustic. The sun remained bright for us late into the evening. Now we have a couple days of sightseeing before our next concert in Bergen.

Just added audio from our own concert to this reel!! 🎶 Highlights from the Lantern Choir’s first concert in Scandinavia!

The Lantern Choir is comprised of members from five different Minnesota choirs who came together to make this tour possible.❤️ There are 20 or so members from my own church choir at St. Philip the Deacon, and a total of around 70 singers and three directors. Our tour program highlights the deep bonds between Scandinavia and Minnesota, tying in both traditional Scandinavian melodies and American music.

I am the primary accompanist, and we are also joined by a wonderful orchestra traveling with us to perform the new 8-movement Tom Trenney commission, Love’s Lantern. We had a delightful turnout for our first concert and can’t wait for more.

Our second tour concert in Jönköping was absolutely delightful. We were warmly welcomed by the church with a Swedish fika - coffee and treats! - and the church was filled with a most wonderful and kind audience. Our time in Jönköping was short but sweet, as tomorrow we move to Oslo and spend the remainder of our tour in Norway!

The background audio for this reel is actually from a low quality phone recording of our concert today. But high quality music ❤️

(P.S. the background audio is not us singing but our own audio is coming soon 🙂)
