On Wednesday night, Pi Kappa Phi paired with Special Olympics at Purdue for a Unified Sports event on the intramural fields on campus.

More than 25 fraternity members joined members of the Special Olympics student group to host a dozen clients for flag football, bags, as well as tossing a football and a Frisbee for more than an hour.

It was the first 10 such events scheduled this semester whereby the fraternity engages people with disabilities from the Lafayette community. The chapter also supports the national fraternity’s outreach project, The Ability Experience, raising funds and awareness for people with disabilities locally and nationally.

Alyssa Langeman grew up in a home where inclusion was part of everyday life. Now, in partnership with @soindiana1, she and other Boilermakers from Special Olympics College Purdue Chapter (SOCAP) are strengthening the #UnifiedSports community right here on campus! 🏈🚂

The program relaunched in 2022, thanks to Paden Alie, assistant director of sport programs at Purdue Recreation & Wellness. Since then, @purduerecwell has supported SOCAP through facility access, scheduling and providing intramural sports officials.

Over the past 12 weeks, athletes in the Special Olympics Indiana Train 4 Life program have been working hard to build strength, confidence, and healthy habits. In partnership with Special Olympics, this program focused fitness, nutrition, and mental health.
Each week included group workouts, home workouts, lifestyle education, and nutrition tips, plus pre- and post-program biometric and fitness testing.
Led by RecWell Personal Trainer Ben M. and F45 Coach Isabella H., these athletes finished strong with their final fitness challenge: The Combine, pictured here! 💥
