This is my love letter to American Idiot 💌

This weekend we closed American Idiot at @cultural_arts_playhouse. This experience was truly something special! Thank you to EVERYONE involved in this production! You are all so iconic and amazing! Going into this production I knew absolutely nobody and felt like such an outsider. I was honestly so intimidated walking in for like the first month of rehearsals. However this was the most fun I’ve had doing a show in a while!! Everyone was ready to work and create something truly one of a kind. What we did on that stage can never be replicated! We put our blood, sweat and tears into this (literally)!

This role also challenged me in ways I never thought imaginable. Thank you @domenicknapoli @mario_mannarino14 @joe.thomas1234 @yesmoral for letting me tackle the beast that is Whatsername! This was the most empowered I’ve ever felt! Thank you for trusting me with this role! Shoutout to @saminachos and @warandtyranny for killing it as dance captain!! You guys bodied that shit!!

I love all of you so deeply and hope to work with each and every one of you again! WE FUCKING DID THAT SHIT!!!! (If I didnt tag you I apologize!!!)

4th time in American Idiot in 6 years… who’s taking bets on when I do it again?!

American Idiot opening this weekend was an explosion of beautiful and powerful energy which I am so grateful to be a part of.

⚠️WARNING: LONG, EMOTIONAL POST INCOMING!⚠️ (This is one of those things I didn't think I was ever be able to put into words, but I'm going to try my hardest.)

As many close family and friends already know, about a week before my ninth birthday in 2003, I lost my mother to cancer. When you're eight years old, you don't really know how to grieve. You don't have the vocabulary for that kind of pain. You just keep moving because everyone else does and somehow life continues, even when yours feels like it stopped.

About a year or two after losing her, my dad took me to Borders bookstore one day. Being a Bay Area native himself, he was already quite familiar with the music of this band called Green Day, so he picked up their new album titled #AmericanIdiot. On the drive home, he slid it into the CD player of his green BMW X5 and I remember sitting in the passenger seat, reclining back and just listening to song after song...

By the time the fifth song "Are We the Waiting" came on, something clicked. I didn't know it then, but I had just found the soundtrack that would carry me through some of the hardest years of my life.

I eventually learned that their frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, also lost a parent to cancer around the same age I did. Suddenly, their music made even more sense. It was grief, anger, confusion, hope... It was proof that unimaginable loss didn't have to be the end of someone's story.

That album became more than my favorite record, but a lifeline. It inspired me to sing, perform and create. It reminded me that pain could become art and that surviving wasn't the same thing as giving up. So much of the person I've become exists just because my dad bought that CD one afternoon and pressed play.

I carried that inspiration with me into musical theatre in high school and college. I loved every second I spent on stage, but I never played the leading lady. Looking back, I know a big part of that wasn't only talent or experience, but me. I was still carrying so much grief and self-doubt that I never truly believed I was good enough to be the star of the story... (Cont'd on next slide ➡️)

...Trauma has a way of convincing you to stay small; even when I

AMERICAN IDIOT OPENS TOMORROW!!! 🤘🏻🖤
Are we ready to RAGE?!? 🎸

Words can’t describe how much this show means to me. American Idiot is one of those shows that will stick with you forever. Being apart of this specific production has been everything I didn’t think I needed in my life. Over the last two years I’ve been heavily struggling with trying to make myself “perfect”. I didn’t want to be judged or perceived by anyone. I was shrinking myself down to convince people, but more importantly myself, that I liked who I was. Next week will be one year since I discharged from ED residential. Over the past year I have worked towards building myself back up piece by piece.
Being able to preform is truly one of the reasons why I chose recovery and being able to share the stage with all these incredible people has helped me more than I can ever explain!
Having this show be my first show back is super special. It shows that we are all dealing with demons behind the curtain and we can either let them win or choose to fight back!
I am choosing to fight back.
This has truly been a healing experience for me.
Thank you so much to @domenicknapoli @joe.thomas1234 @yesmoral @mario_mannarino14 and @cultural_arts_playhouse for giving me this opportunity!
