Taking this front yard from a barely living grass patch to a sponge full of perennial shrubs and wildflowers 🤝

(Snuck a couple blueberries and a cold hardy fig tree in there too)

Shoutout to @hellstriphero for the inspiration for the pathway, first time making one like this and I plan on doing many more!

This winter has been another season of pausing all work and taking off for warmer climates, exploring various forms of living closely with land in different parts of the world.

It’s hard to put into a few words the experience of visiting this village in Tetebatu. After spending the last many years studying regenerative ag/permaculture on farms and doing landscape design for clients in the US it was very humbling to visit a place where these methods are simply the way of life. A place where all their systems are completely dialed- waterways, staple crops, building materials, harvesting and processing; where all their fruit trees are pumping and have the highest quality genetics; where none of this requires much planning, money, fancy equipment or any involved design framework but rather just intuition gained from lived experience and passed down from generation to generation.

Humbled as I see everyone from the grandmothers to the children pour their energy into the land to provide for one another. As I see every man in the village spend any spare time and money they have to help build the mosque. Collective efforts for shared priorities. Coming from a culture that prioritizes individual freedom and money so much but often lacks community and shared ideals, witnessing life in this village was inspiring 🌞

It’s a reminder of what we can strive for as a business. To create something real, impactful, and lasting with each project we work on; to craft landscapes with such intention and attention to detail that they can in turn provide for our communities as well as the local ecosystem; and to continue forming and passing on an intuitive knowledge base that allows us to manage these living landscapes.
