POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This second night of Hanukkah is different than all other nights because on THIS night, as I post, @dr.hussam73 along with remaining medical staff and patients at Kamal Adwan Hospital have been ordered out of the building and removed to the courtyard!!!!!
.
.
I am only lighting one candle each night (plus the lighter candle in the middle) and am not increasing the number of candles as is customary, because Jewish light does not grow brighter with each Palestinian slaughtered in Gaza! On the contrary. Humanity is dying with each life ended and each light extinguished.
.
.
I this dedicate this light to @dr.hussam73 and everyone at Kamal Adwan hospital, and to @omar_al_gedi whose brother and journalist @aymanalgedi12 was targeted and murdered last night with four colleagues while he waited outside Al Awda Hospital in Nuseirat Camp as his first (and only!!!!) child, a son, was being born.

We are so excited to share our online art auction to raise funds for our friend, Dr. Feras Hassan Rusrus. Funds raised will make it possible for Dr. Feras to evacuate Gaza and continue his medical studies in Ireland. Dr. Feras has been accepted into the MSc Diabetes program at the University of Galway. We are raising funds to cover his travel expenses, visa costs, tuition fees, and living expenses. Any contribution you make will bring his vision closer.
This online art auction starts on Sunday, July 13, with opening bids starting as low as $15. We have wonderful art for auction! And much is available to be shipped anywhere in the world (for free)!
All art has been graciously donated by the artists, and all proceeds from the sales will go directly to Feras’s Chuffed campaign. We are still accepting donations! To donate art to this fundraiser, please get in touch - the auction will be running all summer!

Hi friends,
I'm launching a campaign in order to raise the funds required for my friend Dr. Feras Hassan Rusrus @feras_hassan3 to evacuate from Gaza and complete his Masters in diabetes studies at Galway University.

https://chuffed.org/project/134906

If you have been following my work, you will have seen portraits of doctor Feras among them. Feras first got in touch with me last August. I offered to do a portrait of him in order to promote the campaign he had started in to help his family survive the horrific conditions they face in Gaza. As I was working on that portrait I came down with Covid. I sent him a message to let him know the portrait would be delayed. He responded:

"My prayers for your complete recovery from the Corona virus. I advise you to adhere to the doctor's instructions, take your medication, and drink warm liquids.
We are now in the third displacement. After two days I was able to secure the family, but we were separated, each of us sitting in a place far from the other. However I hope this ends soon. Thank you for your prayers and kindness. My regards to the entire family.
Don't stress yourself out about drawing the portrait now. I'm excited to see it, but I hope you get well first."

In the intervening months I have heard from Feras on a daily basis as he has done so much good in the face of so much horror and tragedy.

For years, Feras has dreamed of specialising in medicine. Now, he has a rare opportunity to make that dream a reality: he’s been accepted into the MSc Diabetes programme at the University of Galway—a comprehensive course that will equip him with the skills and knowledge to become a professional diabetologist.

Supporting Feras is not only about helping him reach his professional goals—it is an act of resistance and hope. It is a refusal to allow the attempt to erase a people to succeed. It is an investment in someone who, even in the darkest of times, continues to serve humanity with compassion and strength.
To this end, we are raising funds to cover his travel expenses, visa costs, tuition fees, and living expenses. Any contribution you can make—no matter how small—will help bring this vision closer. Hannah
