I had a great time playing a dumpster diving hippie in the short play "Hold It Right There" during the Manhattan Theatre Source Opening Season Soiree last night! We were celebrating the Collective Genius Festival (which was formerly known as Estrogenius, when I did "Genesister" as part of it last year) and Spontaneous Combustion. It was a cool art gallery venue, I met some new friends, and it was a blast performing a funny scene with my buddy Stuart (of which some pics from the performance itself are sprinkled throughout this post)!

My office last week with @psg at @icicestparis in their final pop-up in New York City after their successful parties in Shanghai, Paris, and LA!

Watching DJs, chefs, curators, excited @nyknicks fans, World Cup fans from Senegal and France and more all come into the same place to celebrate this unique blend of culture? I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Massive gratitude to this stellar team with @elev8.la and @reflexgroup - exceptional views all week. ✨💋

Been postponing the photo dump cos I’m in denial that tour is in the rearview. Twas was the longest stretch to date with this crew - a mere 10 days - but in an economy that makes it increasingly difficult for musicians to build a sustainable touring career, I feel incredibly fortunate to have had this experience. Awestruck by the kindness, care, talent, and tenacity of this band and the fans, friends, and family we encountered along the way. Here’s to many more miles of magnificent music down the road. Special thanks to @grandphonymusic @newfrontiertouring @missingpiecegroup and all the venues, coffees, and pretzels that fueled our hearts, minds, and bellies. John’s EP Almost Ok drops on 5/29 - presave/preorder at johngallagherjr.net 🤘

‘Hugo Ball : a Dada Adventure’ (Director)
Pointless Theatre, 2016

A one-of-a-kind spectacle loosely based on the life of Hugo Ball, one of the founders of the highly influential DADA anti-art movement. Through Ball’s story, the show explores themes of art, love, faith, and the unexpected cost of pushing the boundaries. Featuring a unique blend of puppetry, absurdity, mask, dance, yelling, banging & weeping, the performance was accompanied by a visual gallery of work created by the cast throughout the rehearsal process.
…………………………………………

“Once again, under the sure-handed guidance of director Matt Reckeweg, the look of “Hugo Ball” is remarkably rich, given the troupe’s budgetary constraints…It is rife with smart conceits, beginning with a sweetly imaginative one: Ball himself is played by a puppet, his appendages a collection of loosely hanging wooden spools and his head, conveniently, a red rubber ball.” -Washington Post

“Pointless Theatre never squanders an opportunity to tell a simple story in a spectacular fashion, and Hugo Ball is no different. Instead, Director Matt Reckeweg and the whole hilarious ensemble ruthlessly rifle through every theatrical tool at their disposal – from opera and bawdy humor to some crazy Brechtian meta commentary – to present a show that is as anarchic, joyful, and cuttingly satirical in its telling as in the subject himself.” -DC Theatre Arts

“ If you don’t walk away from the experience with at least one good gut-busting laugh, one moment of utter confusion, feeling slightly offended at something, and desperately confused about whether you enjoyed your 85 minutes or wasted it, there’s a good chance you might not be a human being.” - Theatre Bloom
