Working out what you’re good at takes time, and involves trying out other stuff and discovering what you’re not so good at.

After writing and presenting one 14-minute documentary it was pretty obvious I was a novice. On the second film we introduced an autocue. The director seemed happy with my ability to use it and deliver, but I hated how awkward and stiff I felt. Since then I’ve asked not to use autocue. I’d rather put myself under a bit more pressure to remember what I’ve written, and have the freedom to edit it into something more natural.

It has led to one or two hairy moments with weather (deliver the line before the storm breaks) but we always get the shot in the end!

Each film is a learning curve. Each time I try to tweak something and carry forward lessons from the previous project. Improving my performance is part of the fun for me, and I don’t mind that through that process I might make a right fool of myself occasionally!

Trees are strongest in the autumn. Their energy isn’t being used to grow leaves or fruit. They are weighed down less, all of the energy is down in the roots. What we see as death, is just the start of new life.

Autumn is perfect for sowing new seeds. This is why @changecircles begins now - on Monday Oct 27th 🌎💛

When we think of changemakers, we often picture activists like Angela Davis or Greta Thunberg.

But changemaking comes in many forms. 💭 (Some of the next slides might surprise you.)

The truth is, we can’t create change if we’re running on empty. We can’t pour from a depleted cup, or think clearly when we’re burnt out.

That’s why Change Circles started - to be a calm, healing space for changemakers of all kinds to pause, refill, and reconnect. 🌿

Because the first step to creating change… is finding your centre again. 💛

We begin next week

🫶Q: What exactly is a Circle?

I’ve been getting a few Qs in DMs about Change Circles and the format. So here’s another that I hope can be answered in the post and below 😊

Circles are a many thousand years old tradition where people gather, and take turns to share and listen. When circles are facilitated with thoughtful boundaries and intention, the feeling of connection and healing can be incredible.

Circles have long been a symbol of unity and equality, where everyone sits at the same level and every voice matters. They can be used to resolve conflict (internal or between people), make decisions, build community, share cultural knowledge, and offer emotional support. The format itself creates a sense of safety and belonging, as people feel heard, respected, and connected. By encouraging deep listening and open sharing, circles help us build trust, strengthen relationships, and integrate our experiences in a way that brings healing and clarity.

At Change Circles the circle experience will be facilitated with a few rules, including: everyone has 2-5 mins to share (numbers depending), no interrupting, or speaking with the person after about what they said (unless they ask for support) and most importantly, absolute respect of confidentiality.

Your time will be yours. You can speak, pass, or just have the silence to be held (a powerful experience if you can ignore any initial feelings of discomfort).

A really important thing to remember is that listening is equally, if not more, important. When we tap into brain synchronicity (which will happen during the initial meditation), we somehow manage to share a small part of eachother too. It can feel extremely connected and profound. What you take from other people’s shares is likely to be the most impactful part of the Change Circles experience.

I’d love to see you there!
