Is there a more intriguing and touchable plant than moss? I don't think so. It's ~450million years old, has 15000-25000 species, holds a place in folklore and healing in cultures across the globe and I'd quite like to roll around in it tbh. Koi Pond Guitar! 🐸🎶 Wow! What a beast of a project. I challenged myself on every front with this one. I wanted to make a #MIDI capacitive touch instrument that looks like a koi pond had a guitar for a grandmother. Used all my skills for this one! Plus some new ones! ☀️ The clear resin base I made in #blender3d using water physics simulations. The lily pads were my first ever #PCBs ! It's all driven by a #raspberrypi. I had a blast making it and playing it. So many cool friends tested it for me too. I loved seeing the joy and confusion on their faces. What do you think of this whimsical instrument invention? On 4th September 2026, ‘From Darkness Comes Light’ was exhibited at Norwich University of the Arts’ Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab (IVSL). Creative Technologists Collaborators: Samantha Mharie @smartist_art and Rabi Syed @simpletonrmedia This is our MSc final major project which explores how NHS datasets on depression across Norfolk and Waveney can be transformed into data visualisation, interactive technology and an immersive experience - creating a space for audiences to connect with the data through audiovisual, respond emotionally, and reflect on the reality behind the numbers. At the heart of the project is a simple message: you are not alone in the battles you face. We had an amazing turnout! Seeing people engage with, enjoy and connect with our work brought us so much joy. Knowing that the installation achieved its goal of creating a sense of connection and hope made all the hard work worthwhile. A huge thank you to everyone who came to experience ‘From Darkness Comes Light’ and supported us along the way. And a special thank you to our NUA lecturers and Creative Technology technicians for their guidance, support and help in bringing this project to life.
