I don't think I have been this upset over anyone or anything before in my whole life. Ella @blackwomyn has been a massive influence in my life, even before she was my film class teacher assistant. #RIP

I am both saddened and appreciative in this moment. To announce the sudden passing of a fellow Haitian sister, a filmmaker, producer, one woman show creator, friend, daughter, and I’m sure so much more! Ella Turenne…you touched many lives with your big heart, your thoughtful words and your beautiful smile! Your deep passion for life was felt by me and I’m sure every single person who met you!

I’m happy to know that we took the opportunity to connect and hear each other’s voices a few short months ago! Thank you for inspiring me to be more, to go harder, to think bigger! Your legacy lives on in each and every one of us! Join me in sending condolences, love and light to Ella’s family, friends, colleagues and soros!

Rest in power Queen 🇭🇹

FREE MOVIE SCREENING! !!THIS SATURDAY!!! 4pm/7pm PST/EST CLICK ON BIO TO REGISTER!!! Fanm on Films in collaboration with Film and Media Studies, Visual Studies and the Humanities Center is pleased to present the US premiere of the film “Madan Sara.” The Madan Sara documentary tells the stories of these indefatigable women who work at the margins to make Haiti’s economy run. Despite facing intense hardship and social stigma, the hard work of the Madan Sara puts their children through school, houses their families, and helps to ensure a better life for generations to come. This film amplifies the calls of the Madan Sara as they speak directly to society to share their dreams for a more just Haiti.

The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Ella Turenne (Visual Studies) and Martine Jean (Film Bug Podcast) featuring “Madan Sara” director Etant Dupain and contributor and MacArthur Fellow Edwidge Danticat.
