He picks the ball up, nice bit of skill to get away from two players then slots the ball comfortably.

⚽️🍻 – Rage Against The Dying Of The Light: The Case For Playing Football Into Your 30s.

Seven seasons, one double, a questionable set of knees and absolutely no intention of calling it a day.

We spoke to Jake Nolan, founder of Sefton Park Rangers, about keeping a grassroots club alive, growing up without growing out of the game, and why there’s still nothing better than playing with your mates on a Saturday.

Go to our website, sign up to the newsletter, and get it in your inbox next Wednesday.

SPR

I’ve been going to watch these lads on and off for past couple of years, a local club playing just off lodge lane. Sefton Park Rangers are not just a club they are a full wrap around community with a first and second team, women’s team and a Friday night kick about.

Watching them play is one thing but what happens off the pitch is another. They help in the community distribute balls and bring connection n belonging to those who watch and play.

Before I come to Liverpool I’d fallen out with football pretty much completely, I’d not kicked a ball for years. While been here I’ve rediscovered me love for it. It’s called the beautiful game for a reason. And at this grass roots level you see football in all its glory. Not only have I fallen back in love with playing football due to playing with @damienjohnkellyhouse every Thursday and the odd Friday kick about with SPR. Started going to games more up n down the football league from Scunthorpe to Liverpool FC. Along the way I became drawn to photographing football too, theres a variety of emotions conveyed on 90 minutes that can’t really be replicated. I love the commitment, the passion and the upset.

Another thing I found out when I came here was the notion of being a wool. And that folk like myself from gods county are in-fact wools of a sorts. I also found out that you can be dyed in the wool. Which means the scousers adopt you as one of their own. Folk keep telling me am an adopted scouser, so the wool must finally have been dyed. I suppose we’re all wools to somebody.

Up the SPR+ the wools.

SPR2 v Mersey Harps

The footy has become a bit of a creative outlet for me the last couple of weeks. Hopefully you don’t feel bombarded by random fellas playing football.
