Let’s make garlic babies! 😂🧄

One little clove now, hopefully a whole bulb next summer 🌱

Split your bulb into cloves, leave the papery skins on and plant pointy end up! Aim for 15cm apart, with the tips about 2.5cm below the soil, in a sunny spot with good drainage.

Most garlic needs a cold spell to develop proper bulbs, which is why autumn is such a lovely time to get planting 🍂

Save this for planting day! Are you growing garlic this year?

This week we’ve sown our first broad bean seeds. We’re growing these in a large container, planting the seeds approximately 5 cm deep and 20 cm apart.

Sowing in autumn should allow for strong root systems to develop over winter, hopefully leading to a great harvest in spring 2027.

Seeds were gifted from @sprinkleseedsco

I was thinking because the summer is over, so is my garden! But @sprinkleseedsco kindly gifted me a mo the subscription, where they send you seeds that are ready to be sown each month, so the garden never has to stop! So for October I got to sow some: garlic, onions, cauliflower and peas! 🫛

Now the garden never has to stop for the seasons 😍

September is still a great time to sow seeds for an autumn harvest! Many vegetables thrive in the cooler and wetter weather.

This weekend we planted spring options and winter spinach. The spinach should be ready to harvest in October and November, and the spring onions in early spring. 🧅 We are sowing these directly so we’ll be setting up some beer traps to protect the seedlings from snails and slugs! 🐌

There is plenty of time left to sow seeds in September. 🌱

Lots of vegetable seeds can still be sown that thrive in the cooler autumn weather.

This weekend we planted radish and parsley seeds into seperate troughs. We’re expecting the parsley seeds to be slower to germinate, so these are currently being kept undercover in the greenhouse.

There’s something so satisfying about growing your own food 🌱

Since moving to the countryside, I’ve become even more interested in growing more of what we eat at home, and I’m slowly learning as I go.

I was so happy to receive September’s @sprinkleseedsco box, filled with seeds to get growing this month. 🌱

What I love about Sprinkle Seeds is that they take the guesswork out of growing. Their subscription boxes are put together for the season, so you know what to plant, when to plant it and how to get growing, with seeds delivered to your door each month. 🌱

It’s brilliant for a beginner gardener like me, and I can’t wait to see what comes up! 🤎

Thanks to @sprinkleseedsco for sending me their September seed box 🤩🌱 Ad/Gifted.

This month we’ll be sowing a number of seeds for harvest in autumn 🍂. We’ll be sowing spring onions, radish, spinach and parsley.

The seed box also contained broad beans which we’ll be sowing directly outside in early October.

Our September sowing plan:
- Spring onions - plant in a raised bed as a companion plant for cabbage.
- Radish - plant in a container (autumn harvest)
- Spinach - plant in a raised bed with our lettuce and Pak Choi (autumn harvest)
- Parsley - plant in a container (autumn harvest)

Turns out the bit after the big life moment is pretty lovely too🤎

Coming home, opening wedding gifts, baking in our little kitchen, making far too many plans for the garden, buying myself flowers and slowly finding our rhythm again.

After such a full few months, I think this is exactly what I needed 🥺

And possibly my favourite part... our home is slowly evolving into the cottagecore haven of my dreams 🌈🫶🏽

We even baked cinnamon buns in preparation for autumn hehe Matt’s nearly on board with my seasonal agenda 🥺😅

Here’s to this next little chapter xx
