The best camera is the one you have with you; so goes the old photographer addage.

This is the Tormented Valley; 16 miles of sub-arctic alpine tundra in the no-mans-land between the US and Canadian border checkpoints along the Klondike Highway in British Columbia.

My expensive professional camera and lenses were packed away deep in the van and so I hopped out with just the iPhone in my pocket to capture the landscape.

I never even saw the raven photobomb until he was past. Snapping the photo when I did was sheer providence.

Being in the right place at the right time always beats having the “best gear.”

One minute of Alaskan zen.

Did you catch the fish swimming around?

Today is exactly ten years since I moved to Denver. I arrived jobless, crashing on an air mattress in @bradmchargue ‘s living room. But it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Ten years later I’ve finished an award winning career in news, transitioned in to the most successful years I’ve ever had as a freelancer, went on countless adventures, and of course met and married the love of my life @freckled.flyer

My life has been forever changed for the better by this city, and I will be forever grateful. #denver #tenyears #anniversary

Showing up to a campsite in the dark can be stressful for sure. But sometimes, the best moments are waiting for you just beyond the shadows 🌅✨

What kinds of views have you found the morning after arriving at camp?

I’ve wanted to take van photos and drone video at this location since longer than we have had a van! Epic location at a disused and ruined dam.

It took a while, but I finally got around to doing a van tour. I am out camping with Juniper this weekend while @freckled.flyer is at camp.
