Delicious and salty, with a hint of cheap. Wine stuff mostly at En Cavale Wine (@encavalewine). Sometime writer; photos edited. A bit swishy

This past weekend we were invited to pour at SLO Coast & Friends, hosted by Mikey @scar_of_the_sea and Raj @parrwinescambria.

We made a little trip out of it, starting with a stop at Hearst Castle.

From there we headed to Bassi Vineyard, which Mikey and Gina now own and farm. As the sun went down, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and wines shared by all.

Sunday was the main event. Growers, winemakers, families, kids, dogs - everyone together for a day centered around organic farming, wine and community. We tasted so many great wines throughout the day, and if you ever have the chance to go next year, we highly recommend it.

We wrapped up the weekend with a paella dinner, and many bottles shared around the table. A big thank you to Raj for your generosity, to Mikey for bringing everyone together, and to Amanda for making it all happen 🤍

In honor of Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈our next two What’s In My Basket videos will spotlight a group of some of the finest gay men to ever walk into this fair Bottle Shop & Market.

For this edition: Winemaker, wine club member, writer, neighborhood fixture, fashion icon and longtime friend Wolfgang Weber @spume

Wolfgang, our favorite Aquarian ♒️ has worked in nearly every aspect of the wine world from sales to wine writing, as well as making his own wines under the En Cavale @encavalewine label. His knowledge runs deep, especially when it comes to the wines of Piedmont, and he quite literally has the tattoos to prove it 🍇

You’ll usually spot Wolfgang zipping over to the shop on his e-bike or alongside his partner Brandi another pillar of style, creativity, and grace in the community.

We love Wolfgang not just for his palate and passion, but for the energy, curiosity, and sense of connection he brings everywhere he goes. A true Gemini favorite.

A little bit more about En Cavale @encavalewine En Cavale Wine was started in 2017 by Wolfgang and Chad Westbrook Hinds as a way to re-examine classic west coast grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel through the prism of natural winemaking. That lineup now includes the Italo-Mediterranean stalwarts Vermentino and Sangiovese, as well as the occasional experimental release like their ‘Who Goes There?’ Skin Ferment & Red Blend that are currently on the shelf. Now go grab a bottle

So What’s in Wolfgang’s Basket? 🧺
