"I was sitting there reading through this list of traits... and it was like reading a list of my own personality." Amy Richards was attending a teacher training session about supporting autistic students, when she realized the autism "traits" being projected on the wall described her too. That was the start of her journey to discover and accept her own autism.

Amy would eventually leave teaching after experiencing multiple burnouts. Now she is self-employed as a business strategist and hosts a podcast called Squarepeg @squarepeg.community, where she talks with autistic guests about their autism discovery journeys and what they've learned along the way.

In this episode, Amy talks about life before and after her autism diagnosis, and what inspired her to start Squarepeg. As a podcast host, Amy also shares her approach to selecting guests and editing episodes, the importance of featuring a diverse range of guests, and how a listener’s email led her to make a major change to her podcast. New @squarepeg.community podcast episode is up! I could not believe it's been three years since we recorded my "from psychiatric trauma to autistic joy" one. This time, I'd planned to be a good author and promote my book, but fairly typically, I got completely derailed and started infodumping about special interests instead. After I recorded with Amy for @squarepeg.community podcast earlier in the year, a listener responded because they were disappointed by the way we referred to our ADHD.

After lots of RSD 😅, lots of reflection and talking to our wonderful Patreon family 🥰 I ended up being so grateful to this person for their response! It led to lots of really interesting reflections and gave me the chance to record with Amy again! 🎉🎉🎉

This episode was the two of us reflecting on how we view our ADHD and autism and the combination of the two, as well as going off on some tangents and me forgetting what I was talking about. I really enjoyed recording this and it brought up so many interesting reflections! I hope you enjoy it too ❤️

When I first realised I was autistic I was searching for a podcast to help me to start to understand myself a little bit better and then I found Amy’s @squarepeg.community and I dreamed every time I listened that I could be a guest one day and now that dream has come true! 🥰

I never usually listen to myself on podcasts but I listened to a bit of this one and I was cringing listening to myself shout at Amy excitedly like the massive fangirl I am! 🫣😂

Apologies that we’ve been absent so long. Life is just too much for some of us at the minute (@adhdadult_james mainly) so we just haven’t been able to record but hopefully we’ll be back soon.
